Turing School of Software & Design Benefits Overview

Turing strives to be a place where employees feel loved, supported, challenged, valuable and effective.

Culture

Volunteer in local community

We host and run volunteer community efforts like CoderDojo and tech meetups.

Partners with Nonprofits

We get to work with many great local and national non-profits interested in workforce enablement, such as the Beacon Fund, Goodwill, and [email protected]

Friends outside of work

Game nights, potlucks, etc.

Eat lunch together

Lunch is typically filled with laughter and, too often, marble races.

Intracompany committees

Special projects or initiatives like our summer work with Kode with Klossy or the launch of our Mod 0 program pull together cross-functional teams.

Daily stand up

Teams have the choice whether to have a formal standup or not. But Friday mornings we have "Wins & Appreciations" in a standup style with the whole team.

Open door policy

Team owned deliverables

Team based strategic planning

There's a tremendous amount of strategic planning at all levels of the organization.

Group brainstorming sessions

Everything is a collaboration.

Pair programming

There are people pairing constantly on staff or with students.

Open office floor plan

We have both open/shared spaces, small group offices, and individual workspaces so staff can find their best environment for any given time or activity.

Diversity

Documented equal pay policy

Each position is assigned to a salary tier. Every new person joining the team gets that tier's base salary. Every two months, the individual gets a 1.2% raise and the tier base goes up 0.6%.

Dedicated Diversity/Inclusion Staff

Diversity and inclusion is everyone's job. We work on it through direct professional development, intentional recruitment and selection, and always striving to do better.

Highly diverse management team

Our six-person leadership team is two-thirds female and half people of color.

Unconscious bias training

We regularly engage in professional development about diversity, biases, microaggressions, mental health, and related topics. Further, we deepen understandings by teaching those sessions to students.

Diversity manifesto

The mission statement is anchored in diversity.

Additional Perks + Benefits

Anything that helps staff members feel like their best selves benefits our students, so it's worth it.

Regarding perks we don't have checked off above, we consider it a perk to *not* have beer on tap, ping-pong tables are annoying, non-profits can't give out equity, and we believe bonus-based pay is stupid.
