Oso Work-Life Balance & Wellbeing

Workload Sustainability

At Oso, we believe in working hard on meaningful problems while maintaining a sustainable pace. Our approach might seem contradictory at first: if you ask anyone on the team, they'll tell you the workload is reasonable, but it's also true that we work harder than most. How can both be true?

Meaningful work makes the difference: What's special about being at an early-stage company like Oso, particularly one where we push everyone to take ownership over product, is that everything is meaningful. There's a tight loop from your work to our customers, which makes the effort feel purposeful rather than draining.

Results over hours: We don't operate on a traditional 9-5 schedule, and we don't manage to "time spent in seat" or specific hours. We have a small number of recurring meetings, giving you plenty of focus time. The emphasis isn't on "being online" but rather on setting and achieving big goals together.

Life outside of work matters: We explicitly expect that everyone has a life outside Oso, including hobbies, errands, exercise, and regular vacation. We offer unlimited PTO so you can take the time you need to rest and recharge. Our flexible work options and distributed team structure (headquartered in NYC's NoMad neighborhood) support this commitment.

High ownership, appropriate ambiguity: As an early-stage company, there's ambiguity that comes with the territory. For people excited about high-ownership environments, this is energizing rather than stressful. You're surrounded by incredibly smart teammates who care a lot, which makes tackling challenges together rewarding.

Our employees rate work-life balance 4.8 out of 5 stars on Glassdoor, reflecting our commitment to sustainable, meaningful work.

Mental Health Support

We take mental health and wellbeing seriously and offer comprehensive support through multiple channels.

Mental health benefits:

  • Access to Talkspace and Spring Health for online therapy and coaching with mental health professionals. These services are available to all employees and their family members, ensuring support extends to your loved ones too
  • Coverage through our medical benefits via Aetna, which includes mental health services

Healthcare access:

  • One Medical for convenient primary care
  • Teledoc Health for virtual healthcare visits
  • HealthAdvocate for navigation and support through the healthcare system

Work-life balance:

  • Unlimited PTO to rest and recharge when you need it
  • Paid parental leave for all new parents to support bonding and family care

Culture that supports wellbeing: Beyond benefits, our culture reinforces wellbeing. We don't operate on a traditional 9-5 schedule or manage to "time spent in seat." Instead, we focus on meaningful work and results, giving you the autonomy to balance your professional and personal life.
