What happens when you find success at a young age?

What happened if you became fantastically successful at a young age?  Would you be self-aware enough to ensure this success would not corrupt you?  It is easy to answer these questions with all the worldly wisdom I’m sure all of you have.  Of course we wouldn’t let it get to our heads, of course we wouldn’t.  But would you trust yourself at 18, with a multi-million dollar company?

Josh Davidson found himself answering those questions.  He started his firm, Chop Dawg, when he was only 16.  What followed was an incredible amount of success that has found him at the helm of a multimillion dollar firm.  Chop Dawg is a new age development shop that helps their clients with all that could be possibly needed for them to become successful.  They have a massive following on Twitter and a truly impressive list of clients.

Yet, in my conversation with Josh I was far more intrigued by how his success changed him rather than how the success changed his firm.  While the old adage that ‘total power corrupts totally’ does not exactly line up with modern startups, it isn’t completely irreverent.  How does forming a multimillion dollar company in your late teens and early twenties affect your development?  I take solace in the idea that had I seen incredible success with my first startup, I’d end up like those child actor we see on TMZ.

But this is not the fate of Josh Davidson.  He is not some middle-aged child star, or a freshly washed out NFL player (Johnny Manziel for instance).  On the contrary he comes off more of an energized-Buddha than a Johhny Manzeil.  Josh seems wades in the waters of an intellectual turned founder.  Everything about him screams success.  From his regimented wake up routine, to intricately planning out his week each Sunday.  These is little about Josh that doesn’t imply success.  From religiously drinking enough water and working out daily, to his pursuit of ensuring his clients are well taken care of.

So maybe success is not as arbitrary as some would make it out to be.  Maybe success is far more about being cunning and being self-disciplined.  Staying successful, while Josh has not explicitly conveyed this just yet, is staying on that path that led you to success in the first place.  While this is not news to many of us, it does imply hope that anyone could be successful should they try hard enough.
