Datical raises $2.1M

Seven undisclosed investors added $2.1 million of a planned $3 million to Datical's piggy bank. The company did not release a statement; however, this round follows the company's previous funding of $8 million in January of 2016, which they used to bring on 25 employees across sales and engineering. Datical develops automated database management tools to shorten the time it takes to bring applications to market. [FormDs]

 

Austin Tech Alliance adds 6 more founding companies

This week, Austin Tech Alliance (ATA) announced the addition of six new founding member companies: Silicon Labs, SXSW, Aceable, Localeur, Convey and FarBridge. The organization is a member-based nonprofit promoting civic engagement in Austin’s tech sector. Individuals and companies can join ATA to magnify their voice and create a civically engaged tech community. [Press Release]

 

Civitas Learning gains new social impact investors

Civitas Learning announced today the addition of two new social impact investors: Lumina Foundation and Valhalla Charitable Foundation. John Duong, director of Lumina Impact Ventures, will join Civitas Learning’s National Advisory Board, which provides guidance and industry perspectives on trends from higher ed leaders, technologists and innovators. Kinnser Software acquired by Mediware Information Systems

Kansas-based Mediware Information Systems finalized the acquisition this week of Kinnser Software, an Austin-based developer of management, billing and scheduling software for the home health and hospice sector. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Kinnser Software, founded in 2003, was owned by private equity investor Insight Venture Partners. [Press Release]

 

Pivot3 names new VP of engineering

Pivot3 has appointed Carlo Garbagnati as its new VP of engineering, where he will lead its software development efforts. Garbagnati joins the team from Hitachi, where he served as VP of Hyperconverged and NAS Engineering. [Press Release]

 

Tech execs rally together in opposition of Gov. Abbott's bathroom bill

CEOs from some of tech's biggest companies — including Austin-based Silicon Labs, GSD&M and Dell — composed a letter strongly opposing a Texas bill that would affect transgender students. In the letter, they say “passage of any discriminatory legislation” in Texas would be “bad for our employees and bad for business.” Also signing the letter were CEOs from companies with large Texas offices like Facebook, Apple, Google, Amazon and Salesforce.
