Cybersecurity company Optiv pulled in $2 million in funding this week from undisclosed investors. CSU releases new report on women in STEM majors

Colorado State University released a report this week identifying a key reason women drop out of tech majors. The study revealed many women leave their majors in STEM fields due to a lack of confidence tied to mathematics, especially in Calculus I — a required course for nearly all STEM majors. While men also struggle with confidence when it comes to Calculus I, the report indicates women have lower confidence overall, leading to a dropout rate for women almost double that of men.[Denver Business Journal]

 

Startup Games to come to Colorado

Austin-based competition the Startup Games announced this week it plans to hold their event in Denver and Boulder areas this October. The games have taken place for five years in Austin and raised a total of $275,000 for various Austin charities. Teams from different startups compete for gold, silver and bronze awards in different activities like foosball, shuffleboard, trivia and a C-level event called Liar’s Dice.
