It's a big day for Galvanize, the Colorado-based technology learning community that offers education, workspace and networking to students, startups and established companies. Presidential candidate and former Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, paid a visit to their original campus in Denver's Golden Triangle today, and earlier this morning they announced they are opening their first New York campus in the neighborhood of Soho. The new campus will offer workspace and events space, as well as the company's signature education and training programs for students pursuing tech careers.
“We are honored and excited to open a beautiful urban community in New York City,” Jim Deters, CEO and Co-founder of Galvanize, said in a statement. “New York is an intellectual center and a growing tech metropolis so it’s a perfect place for the growing, high-energy, Galvanize learning community.”
The new space will take up 55,000-square-feet of the Jack Resnick & Sons building at 315 Hudson Street, and will be the company’s 9th campus.
While all of Galvanize’s campuses generally host events and feature workspaces, the company is an education company first.
“What really sets Galvanize apart, is that we provide education, workforce training and business workspace all under the same roof which gives us the unmatched ability to seamlessly connect the education pipeline to industry,” Deters said. “We’re a perfect home for those who need tech talent in their company and those who want to learn tech and get hired by a great company.”
Galvanize’s New York campus will offer classes in data science, data engineering and web development, as well as classes for people already working in tech who want to ‘level up’ their skills. There will, of course, be events and workspace as well.
The campus will also be home to IBM's new innovation lab, the Bluemix Garage. That space will feature a physical hub where developers can work directly with IBM experts on Bluemix, IBM's cloud platform. IBM operates a similar space out of Galvanize's San Francisco campus.
The New York campus is scheduled to open in early 2017, but until then the company is operating a pop up space in the same building.
Galvanize was founded in 2012 in Denver, and has grown quickly since. Today, in addition to their New York campus, they operate in San Francisco, Seattle, Denver, Boulder, Fort Collins, Phoenix and Austin.
