Killer perks alone don’t make a job or a company great — but they certainly can help. Going beyond the standard healthcare and PTO benefits (as important as those are), companies today are building out perks and benefits packages that support employees in every facet of life.

We checked in with employees from seven Colorado tech companies to learn more about the perks they love the most — including those that aren’t officially part of the perks package.

Mersive’s Solstice software helps teams improve collaboration online, over video and in the meeting room by enabling seamless and unlimited content sharing.

What's your favorite perk or benefit offered by your company, and why?

“The fact that there is a free healthcare option for employees represents the dedication Mersive has to employee wellness,” said Office Manager and Executive Assistant Helena Czaban. “Management recognizes the importance of overall health and trusts employees to know what is best for their own well-being. They even offer a fitness reimbursement program and free yoga classes twice a week, taught by Jonathan at Pura Vida.”

What's the most underrated (but awesome) perk your company offers?

“We have the rare opportunity to be able to park for free in the downtown area,” Czaban said. “If you are someone who chooses to pass up the parking pass for your personal vehicle, Mersive offers a monthly transportation stipend. This makes commuting to and from work in Downtown Denver a very simple task.”

What are some of the other great perks of working for your company that aren't actually part of the perks package?

“Mersive provides a very casual environment to accomplish important work,” she continued. “Casual dress, snacks, a dog-friendly office and monthly social events help offset those stressful days and promote community among staff. In September, much of our staff even hiked Mount Bierstadt together. We take our work seriously, not ourselves!”

Signpost’s smart CRM software captures prospects and customers and targets them with an automated marketing engine that drives conversions and revenue.

What's your favorite perk or benefit offered by your company, and why?

“A favorite perk for me is our office space and location on Blake Street,” said Senior Franchise Account Manager Lindsey Adams. “The open floor plan promotes collaboration throughout the office. Additionally, our building is a historic landmark in Denver. Working in RiNo means we are close to everything.”

What's the most underrated (but awesome) perk your company offers?

“As a senior member of the team, I'd say the most underrated perk is being able to work at our other offices in Austin and New York,” he said. “I've been able to visit Austin twice this past year and my stomach is very thankful.”

What are some of the other great perks of working for your company that aren't actually part of the perks package?

“I would say the extracurricular activities are a huge perk outside of the perks package,” Adams said. “Signposters tend to be like-minded people that enjoy similar activities. We have a soccer and volleyball league. I've only taken three yoga classes in my lifetime, and they were all in this office. The annual ‘Netflix and Chili’ cook-off is another personal favorite.”

OrthoFi helps orthodontists attract new patients while also helping patients obtain affordable and manageable orthodontic care. Their tech-driven SaaS platform handles everything from billing and payment processing to patient and risk management analytics.

What's your favorite perk or benefit offered by your company, and why?

“It feels cliché, but my favorite perk of working at OrthoFi is the connection and support we have with each other as a team,” said Director of Culture Mike O'Muireadhaigh. “I love coming to work in a place where differing opinions are valued.”

What's the most underrated (but awesome) perk your company offers?

“I think the most underrated perk we have is our commitment to the growth and development of our team members,” O'Muireadhaigh said. “We love to grow and coach our team members to excel here — and beyond.”

What are some of the other great perks of working for your company that aren't actually part of the perks package?

“We have a fun, open environment with a team that loves to get things done together,” he said. “We get great results, both for the business and personal development.”

What's your favorite perk or benefit offered by your company and why?

"My favorite benefit is the Scaled Agile sabbatical program,” said Partner Development and Enablement Manager Sue Rafii of the company’s six-week sabbatical perk, which is offered to employees after they’ve been with the company for six years. “It's great being part of an organization that encourages continuous learning, and I'm so excited about the opportunity to take this sabbatical time for my own exploration and personal development."

What's the most underrated (but awesome) perk your company offers?

"The wellness program is company-sponsored but driven by employee initiative,” she said. “We challenge each other to drink water, take the stairs, do yoga or cook healthy, homemade meals. We connect on lots of levels and have fun encouraging each other to be well."

What are some of the other great perks of working for your company that aren't actually part of the perks package?

"One of the best wellness perks is the fully-equipped gym onsite so we can work out,” said Rafii. “We even have a coach/trainer who comes in at lunch two times per week, which is partially funded by the wellness team."

DigitalGlobe collects geospatial satellite imagery and turns it into information that helps people solve problems from food scarcity and natural disasters to infrastructure building and navigation.

What's your favorite perk or benefit offered by your company, and why?

“DigitalGlobe offers unlimited time off for salaried employees and has migrated away from the traditional PTO model,” said Talent Acquisition Partner Rob Hasenmueller. “Obviously I can’t take half the year off, but I’m able to take time off when I need for personal, vacation or sick leave at my discretion. Want to head up to the mountains on a random Wednesday and hit the slopes but you’re almost out of PTO? Not something you have to worry about here! DigitalGlobe is incredible when it comes to valuing employees’ work-life balance.”

What's the most underrated (but awesome) perk your company offers?

“I’d have to say Nextera Healthcare is by far the most underrated benefits DG has,” Hasenmueller said. “It provides direct access to primary care physicians, who are also on site at our Westminster and Longmont locations each month, and gave me the ability to video chat with a doctor to make sure I didn’t have strep throat.

DG is also offering a Student Loan Repayment Program starting in 2019. I can’t wait to be able to pay down some student loans.”

What are some of the other great perks of working for your company that aren't actually part of the perks package?

“Culture. Hands down,” he said. “DigitalGlobe offers an opportunity to work in a tremendously collaborative environment with individuals who are extremely passionate about what we do. I have never been part of a company that not only cares so much about their employees but inspires everyone to focus on our purpose, which is ‘Seeing a Better World.’ The work we do impacts so many lives, from humanitarian efforts to supporting our troops — and everything in between. And if you’re needing to take a break or having a rough day, we have a sand volleyball court, frisbee golf course and game room on our Westminster campus.”

What's your favorite perk or benefit offered by your company, and why?

“I like the career growth opportunities and training, flexibility, work from home opportunities, dependent care reimbursement, massages, food and drinks (including the sparkling water machine and great coffee). And then there are the discounted tickets for fun family weekend activities,” said Project Manager Aleta.

What's the most underrated (but awesome) perk your company offers?

“We have a ‘Cafeteria Plan’ that gets us reimbursements from the company on things related to wellness and education,” said Technical Support Hero JohnHenry. “As a full-time undergraduate working at SurveyGizmo, this is huge for me.”

What are some of the other great perks of working for your company that aren't actually part of the perks package?

“I love the camaraderie,” Office Manager Brook. “People here eat lunch together in big groups because they genuinely like to be around each other. If I need help with something — anything, really — I can ask my boss or my coworkers. Working at SurveyGizmo is like having a built-in second family, 100 new best friends and a tremendous support system around you every day.”

Inspirato aims to bring the luxury and service of a five-star resort to the comfort and space of a home through its members-only vacation rental and hospitality platform.

What's your favorite perk or benefit offered by your company, and why?

“Our FAM trip, which is a seven-day vacation to almost any of the hundreds of homes we offer to our members around the world,” said Care Team Manager Jorge Silva. “I remember my first trip. We arrived at 1 a.m. to one of our properties in Puerto Rico. The resort looked amazing in pictures and the residence was impeccable. Even though it was late, our house was ready, with items from our grocery list waiting in the pantry and fridge — everything we needed to start our vacation. We went to bed and next day the most amazing part was waking up to the views!”

What's the most underrated (but awesome) perk your company offers?

“We have access to a health portal as part of our insurance and you can win up to $200 in gift cards,” Silva said.

What are some of the other great perks of working for your company that aren't actually part of the perks package?

“The fantastic location of our office in the heart of LoDo,” he said. “Our private patio is the best place to have lunch (weather permitting). We also have standing desks.”
