The Colorado Venture Summit is a little under a month away, and we've got the inside scoop on the event as it ramps up. Generally, out of state VCs don’t have a lot of interest in funding far away companies in their infant stages. In order to lure them in, the Colorado Venture Summit was created to bring post-Series A startups into a room with out-of-state VCs they would likely not otherwise get a chance to work with. It’s rather like out-of-town speed dating for dollars… but in a stadium.
Here's why we think you should attend:
There will be lots of VC’s representing out of state money: So far, almost 50 venture firms have registered to attend.
“The event started from the desire to have an event in Colorado that would attract out of state VCs,” Dave Gold, Managing Director at Access Venture Partners, said. “It’s historically been tough to get the coastal VCs to come to Colorado.”
Lots of VIPs will be there: Scott McNealy, Co-Founder of Sun Microsystems will be there, and so will Rishi Garg, Twitter’s VP of Corporate Development and Strategy. Even Governor John Hickenlooper will be in attendance. I’ll be there – and although I’m no VIP, you can certainly buy me a drink.
IBM is a generous sponsor: They’ll be giving away $120k per Main Event Attendee in free hosting credits. Who doesn’t want free hosting?
It’s super exclusive: Other than VCs, only CEOs and Founders of Colorado tech companies that have raised over $2 million are invited to attend. Of course there’ll be a few journalists and government officials poking around too, but on the whole, it’s a very exclusive event.
It’s in Coors Field: Even if you’re not a baseball fan, you have to admit it’s pretty cool to do business in the same place the Colorado Rockies do their business.
If you do not meet the criteria to attend the main event, all CEOs and Founders are invited to attend the after party. You can find more information about the events here.
