Denver-based Voyager Space is building a free-flying space station called Starlab in partnership with Airbus. In its effort to launch the station by 2028, Voyager Space acquired ZIN Technologies on Monday.

ZIN is a design, engineering and manufacturing company based in Ohio that has worked with NASA for over 50 years. During that time, it has provided engineering work on launch vehicles and low-earth orbit infrastructure. It has also worked on the International Space Station, or ISS.

“ZIN’s aerospace expertise, strong reputation in the industry and legacy working with NASA and the ISS makes them a perfect fit for Starlab and the growing Voyager Space technology ecosystem,” Matthew Kuta, president and COO of Voyager Space, said in a statement.

Starlab is planned to be a research facility for NASA and other researchers to conduct space-related experiments and make scientific discoveries. According to Voyager Space, the space station was commissioned on the idea that discoveries there would benefit scientific and commercial endeavors.

Those endeavors may also benefit the public as there is a long history of space research providing invaluable tech advancements, such as artificial limbs, LASIK for eye procedures and water filtration systems, to name a few.

Voyager Space Chairman and CEO Dylan Taylor said in a statement that the acquisition of ZIN is Voyager Space’s seventh acquisition since January 2020.

Financial terms of the acquisiton were not disclosed.
