Founded by two former Microsoft engineers, Fermyon Technologies is no stranger to the VC world as the company recently closed its second funding round this year.

Fermyon, a web development company, secured $20 million in a Series A funding round led by Insight Partners this week. The new funding comes four months after the company raised a $6 million seed round.

Fermyon develops open-source WebAssembly platforms that help developers optimize and launch their web-based applications and software in a more straightforward manner. WebAssembly is a development technique that allows web browsers to run applications no matter the programming language. With its first platform Spin, Fermyon offers tools to developers to make creating web applications easier.

The company announced the launch of another open-source platform Fermyon Cloud alongside the funding raise. With Fermyon Cloud, the company now provides developers with tools that equip them with “unprecedented” performance and security for web applications.

“We have been so impressed by Matt [Butcher], Radu [Matei] and the entire Fermyon team who have become key thought leaders and community advocates in the WebAssembly world. Congratulations to the team on launching Fermyon Cloud. We’re thrilled to welcome Fermyon into the Insight family,” Insight Partners said in a blog post announcing the investment.

As Fermyon continues to grow, the company plans to double its team by mid-2023, according to TechCrunch. The currently 20-person team will add additional roles in marketing, product, community and developer relations.
