Colorado is starting the month off with new expansions and funding rounds. Read on to see what else is happening in the local tech scene. This is the Built In Colorado weekly refresh.

Freshworks is expanding in Denver. California-based SaaS company Freshworks has its foot in Denver and plans to increase its presence this year. The company has grown to nearly 100 employees since it first came to the Mile High City in 2020. Freshworks plans to increase its headcount by 50 percent in the near future. [Colorado Inno]

Backflip got $35M. Backflip is a real estate fintech startup with a presence in Denver and Dallas. The company is building an end-to-end platform for individual real estate investors that will allow them to analyze, source and fund investments. It plans to launch in Texas and Colorado later this year. Backflip raised an $8 million seed round from Vertical Venture Partners and LiveOak Venture Partners and an additional $27 million in debt funding. Funds will go toward expanding Backflip’s product development team. [Business Wire]

Phylum raised $15M. Phylum is a cybersecurity startup focused on protecting the open-source ecosystem. The company raised a Series A round led by ClearSky. The funding will be used to grow its go-to-market team and create new machine learning models and heuristics. Phylum, which has 30 employees, plans to grow its headcount by 50 percent this year. [Built In Colorado]

Liqid gained additional funding. Liqid provides composable infrastructure software for data centers. The company gained strategic follow-on funding led by DigitalBridge Ventures. The new funding will go toward new market opportunities for Liquid’s solutions. [HPC Wire]

Auror expanded. With a presence in Denver, Auror was founded in New Zealand and provides an intelligent platform to reduce crime in retail. The company officially launched in the United Kingdom and works with big names such as Walmart and Woolworths. Auror currently operates in the U.S., Australia and New Zealand. [Auror]

Sovrn named a new CTO. The Boulder-based company named Demetrius Comes as its new CTO to lead and scale Sovrn’s tech innovations. Comes joins Sovrn from GoDaddy where he worked as the CISO and VP of engineering. Sovrn, a publishing tech platform, is actively hiring for nearly 30 open roles. [Sovrn]
