When protests seeking social equality and racial justice erupted across the country last year, businesses began looking inward at their hiring processes and the people they hire.

Colorado-based interviewIA aims to help. The company’s cloud-based platform uses intelligence amplification (IA) technology and behavioral science to help reduce human error and bias throughout the hiring process. The platform also manages all aspects of the job interview process to ensure equitable and efficient hiring.

“At the end of the day, we are really, really focused on building a solution that will truly transform the way that companies think about building teams,” Joe Thurman, CEO and co-founder of interviewIA, told Built In. “Over the next five or seven years, the evolution of how we hire, how we build teams, what work even looks like is going to continue to change dramatically.”

On Friday, interviewIA announced it raised a $2 million seed round to hire additional staff and for further product development, including integration. The round was funded by the Colorado Impact Fund, Rockies Venture Club, FirstMile Ventures, Service Provider Capital, Outbound Capital, Stout Street Capital and Dasein Capital. According to Thurman, more than half of the funding this round came from Colorado businesses.

“As hiring accelerates through the recovery from the pandemic and considering the call to action on diversity, equity and inclusion after the social movements this past summer, we believe a solution to make the interview process more efficient, structured and unbiased is important and timely,” Ryan Kirkpatrick, co-managing partner of the Colorado Impact Fund, said in a statement.

InterviewIA was co-founded in July of 2020 by Thurman, COO Carolyn McGrath, CMO UB Ciminieri and CRO Jacob Mueller.

“We’re a very diverse leadership team,” Thurman said. “I’m a BIPOC leader. UB is half Argentinian. Carolyn, obviously, female. And so we are probably one of the most diverse co-founding teams that has come out of Colorado in a while in the SaaS space. ... I think that that’s an exciting part of who we are as a company. ... What we desire to see in the future of work is people who come together to build great things and lead the change of building more inclusive organizations.”

InterviewIA currently has 11 employees and plans to hire six or seven more contractors and full-time employees. The company’s platform has more than 20 early adopters, including the City of Aurora’s IT Department, Global Medical Response and HSS. InterviewIA also won the Global Inclusion Online Forum’s Startup Pitch Contest last year.
