Weekly Refresh: FoodMaven Names New CEO, Plus Several Tech Fundings

FoodMaven named Ben Deda as new CEO. Deda held several executive leadership roles in sales, marketing and operations before joining FoodMaven as COO last year. The company announced this past week that Deda will be taking over the CEO role from FoodMaven co-founder Patrick Bultema. FoodMaven is company that saves groceries that would otherwise be headed for landfills, and sells it to schools, healthcare facilities and other institutions at a reduced price. Zestful raised $5 million in seed funding. The company helps other companies attract talented workers by offering employee perk packages. For example, companies can work with Zestful to build custom perk packages, and then Zestful will send employee debit cards that can be used for gyms, streaming services or whatever the company decides. Biotech company InDevR raised $7 million. The $7 million was part of the company’s Series A funding round, and it plans to use it to further R&D into its multiplexed protein quantification platform. The company makes scientific products that can be used to make better flu vaccines, among other things. [Press release]

Bear Creek Products raised $38.7 million, according to a Form D. The company filed a Form D on Tuesday stating that it raised the eight-figure sum in equity for a hedge fund. [Denver Business Journal]

Advanced Energy acquired Artesyn Embedded Power. Advanced Energy is a company that offers precision power conversion, measurement and control solutions for semiconductor and industrial manufacturers. Artesyn also works with power conversion and supply, so by acquiring the company, Advanced Energy hopes to diversify within the industry. [Press release]
