Finding the perfect role today means much more than being in a position that appeals to your wallet — your job has to appeal to your personal interests and long-term professional aspirations as well. And for the five Colorado salespeople below, they’ve found roles that check all those boxes. We asked them what drew them to the world of tech-focused sales and what they love most about coming to work each day.

Evolve Vacation Rental Senior Sales Representative Pierce Grogan

Evolve Vacation Rental takes the legwork out of the vacation rental listing process for homeowners and also connects them with renters hoping to holiday. Senior Sales Representative Pierce Grogan said being able to help homeowners fulfill their needs helps him fulfill his professional passion.

What inspired you to pursue a career in tech sales, and particularly within your current industry?

The nature of the industry was what piqued my interest. I have a hospitality background, and while vacation rentals is certainly a different sector than hotels or restaurants, I was confident that some of the same elements would transfer. I like a challenge and learning about this booming industry and its technology has proven very rewarding. Sales has long been on my radar and the consultative nature of Evolve’s sales team seemed like a good fit for my best traits.

What about your current role do you love the most?

I love the variety. As a senior sales representative, I get to work with homeowners but also be a resource to my team and my manager. All homeowners and properties are different and each relationship brings something new to the table. I love hitting my own goals, but it’s also rewarding to know that I’ve helped a person or a family in some way — whether that be by helping them keep their family home, or helping them find success with their investment. But overall, I love my co-workers, their humor and their drive. We’re definitely a fun bunch, but our team’s work ethic is what I value the most.

AdAction Interactive at dinner

AdAction Interactive develops mobile, performance-based marketing campaigns that Fortune 100 companies can use to boost their downloads and user engagement. Team Lead of Business Development Brooks Hurbis said she was driven to working in mobile-focused sales because it combined her past experience with her inherent professional interests.

What inspired you to pursue a career in tech sales, and particularly within your current industry?

I was working on the brand side in the mobile industry, and what I loved most about my role was working with our vendor partners to identify areas where we could better utilize their product for our business needs. I wanted to do that on a larger scale across a variety of verticals, and realized sales was the place to do that. It’s all about finding a problem area, headache, or need for your client, and strategizing where your product can fill that gap. I always wanted to stay within the mobile industry since it’s so fast-paced and client needs are always changing. It’s much easier to sell something you’re interested in and passionate about.

What about your current role do you love the most?

I love the team that I work with here. We’ve created a strong sales culture that’s friendly and fun above all else, but also has a slight competitive edge that keeps us motivated.

Signpost team members grilling

Signpost provides companies with an AI-based CRM software that allows them to generate better conversions from their customer communications and marketing. Sales representative Joy Stukel said working in tech was an obvious choice after she left a career she couldn’t quite sink her teeth into.

What inspired you to pursue a career in tech sales, and particularly within your current industry?

I was pursuing dental school for several years, so I made a huge leap when I decided to go into sales. I made the jump because I realized that I wanted a more independent style of work, and something that I could reap the rewards from immediately. I loved how ever-changing the environment of sales seemed to be, and I had a feeling my drive and self-motivating attitude would make me successful. The tech industry appealed to me because it’s growing rapidly, and seemed like a no brainer as a long-term career choice in 2019.

Learning to trust the process in sales has taught me to trust the process in life outside of work as well.”

What about your current role do you love the most?

Working for Signpost is so exciting because of its growth and constant opportunities to step up and take on more responsibilities. I absolutely love being a sales rep, but I especially love how it constantly pushes me to be better, and pulls me out of my comfort zone every single day. I have become super comfortable being uncomfortable. Learning to trust the process in sales has taught me to trust the process in life outside of work as well.

Formstack team playing pingpong

Data collection is Formstack’s specialty and the company allows its users to gather their own information from many different types of online forms. Sales Development Manager Cameron Kinney said he was really driven to the company because of its people.

What inspired you to pursue a career in tech sales, and particularly within your current industry?

Five years ago, I realized I wanted to combine my interests in technology, process optimization and sales with my past experiences in higher education. I pursued Formstack because I believed in their product, saw the benefit it provided, and they had a team of professionals that I respect and wanted to learn from.

I love the pace of tech sales. It can be a roller coaster full of ups and downs, but overall I’ve found that having a great team makes the ride a lot more fun. The team here is doing amazing things in changing the way data is collected and used.

Sales feels like a dice roll every month, but there is something exciting about that.”

What about your current role do you love the most?

There are so many aspects to appreciate, but three things stand out.

I have the honor of leading seven talented and dedicated sales development representatives and enabling them to be the best team they can be. I love hearing their new ideas and concepts, pushing them to achieve more, and giving them what they need to grow professionally and personally. Secondly, sales feels like a dice roll every month, but there is something exciting about that. It keeps me on the edge of my seat and ready to jump into any situation that pops up. And finally, Formstack has an amazing team of people that is keeping the company moving. The common goals, the shared drive, and the intense games of PowerStruggle (apply if you want to know more) make this an amazing place to work.

What about your current role do you love the most?

The culture — collaboration and support are central to all things at Matillion. This was evident from my first day with the team’s warm welcome, ongoing support resources and the opportunity to travel to the ‘Super All Hands’ in Manchester. Every Matillioner radiates these core values and are eager to help out. I love how this mentality translates to how we work with our customers and partners.
