Inside The Trade Desk’s swanky new office

From overflowing quarters on Pearl between Snooze and Foolish Craig’s to Boulder’s newest, shiniest office building, The Trade Desk has made an impressive move.

Fueled by massive growth in the last couple of years, the adtech company recently moved into the PearlWest complex, which will soon house SolidFire and Galvanize as well.

The complex is the site of the former Daily Camera building at the corner of 11th and Pearl. The Trade Desk had worked on joining PearlWest for a year, as their office on the East End strained to hold more and more employees.

“We had floor plans for so long, but we never actually thought it was going to happen,” said Casey Rabiea, Recruitment Associate for The Trade Desk.

But with the help of office designer Seth Barber from Studio B2SJ and architects from Shears Adkins Rockmore, The Trade Desk’s team built out an incredible 13,000 square foot office sure to make any startup lover swoon, moving in to the space in July.

With distributed teams across the company’s 14 global offices, the bulk of the 40 employees in the Boulder office are engineers. Rabiea said the office was designed to create a fun working environment, where people can customize their workspace and take advantage of electric sit-stand desks.

The office is split into two different workspaces, with a kitchen and cafeteria area in the center. Booth seating lines the area, creating a unique space to do work, eat lunch or just catch up with colleagues.

The kitchen is fully stocked with snacks of all kinds, including gluten-free and vegetarian options, along with a giant beer fridge. The Trade Desk also hosts catered breakfasts and lunches a couple of times each week.

Each of The Trade Desk’s 12 conference rooms has a tongue-in-cheek name — including “Your Face” — so that meeting locations become punny sayings like “in The Cloud” or “in Cognito.

With distributed teams and a global workforce, the conference rooms are useful for all-hands meetings, which everyone attends via video conference.

While The Trade Desk’s team certainly works hard, they also built in room for recreation in their new space. “Da Club” is a windowed-off corner of the office overlooking the Pearl Street Mall that has games and comfortable seating.

On the other side of Da Club is a small, functioning rock wall.

Extending off the kitchen is a large seating area with a flexible layout. It can be reorganized to create seating for large groups, which is perfect for the team’s Friday lunch and learn sessions.

Rabiea said they sometimes bring in outside partners to speak, but the presentations are mostly Ignite-style talks on things people in the office are passionate about, like poker, their experience as a hockey goalie, or even a website someone built in their free time.

“It’s awesome learning about what my colleagues are interested in outside of work,” she said.

With enough space for more than 75 employees, the company is still adding to its team. They also hope to host meetups and other events, acting as a new hub for Boulder’s tech community.

“I come into work and I just smile in this new, amazing office,” said Rabiea.
