Landing a job at a tech company can sometimes be tough. But, there are number of things you can do to make it easier. To flush out those tips we talked to three recruiters in the Colorado tech scene and got their insider advice. These 13 tips should give you a leg up on the competition and a foot in the door.

Swiftpage

Swiftpage focuses on helping micro and small size businesses manage their marketing and sales operations. The company has an email and social media marketing platform called Swiftpage Connect and is the owner of CRM Act! Corporate recruiting and training manager at Swiftpage, Kassi Harris' tips for getting hired:

Get your resume seen:

Make sure the appearance is neat, organized and even add a small splash of color to stand out above the rest. Place your list of skills toward the top and in an easy to read format for someone to quickly and easily see if you fit what they’re searching for. Have a LinkedIn profile and make sure it’s up to date.

Have a good track record:

You can’t change the fact that you’ve moved jobs every six months for the last few years, so prevent it as much as possible. You’re less likely to be considered if you appear to be someone who the company will invest in, but won’t stay long. If you haven’t had the best track record so far, and do get an opportunity to interview, be prepared to address the short term jobs with good reasoning.

Be Yourself:

This is something that has changed over the years. Now, an employer is looking to get to know the real you and fitting into the culture is a major factor. Being yourself and sharing some personal information during your interview is a great idea. Make sure you talk about business when appropriate, but don’t completely hide your personality, share it!

1st Impressions always count:

Making a great first impression is extremely important, this may be the only opportunity you get. Dress professional even if the office vibe is laid back, sit up straight (don’t get too comfortable) and share professional and personal information about yourself. Have a great handshake and don’t talk about money; that can be discussed later.

Find out if the company is a good fit for you:

You spend most of your time at work so make sure it’s a place you want to be and with people you can see yourself enjoying working with. Yes, the company is interviewing you to see if you’re good for them, but you also should make sure it’s a good fit for you. Be careful not to come off arrogant, but ask questions about the company, team, environment and culture to learn more than just the job duties.
