The Head of Project Development (USA) will lead AMP’s market expansion, selection and the development of new facilities across the USA. The leadership role will lead and build the development team responsible for analyzing markets across the USA, creating a strategic playbook for expansion, and working with our operations, facility operations, engineering, product, legal and finance teams to site facilities and optimize start-up. The candidate must show a track record of developing sites, conducting market analysis, site due diligence, contracting land agreements, operating pro-forma models and working with communities for permitting and incentives to enable a successful project. This role will report to the Head of Global Development.
As our Head of Project Development (USA) you will work to:
- Lead through all aspects of a complex project development process by effectively managing property purchase or lease negotiation, permitting, community approval and internal championing of each project;
- Manage facility region selection, including site optimization based on market assessment of material availability, transportation costs, and buyers;
- Build and lead a best-in-class project development and market expansion team, driving the regulatory, permitting, and compliance requirements across all markets in the USA;
- Develop tactical execution plans for project development;
- Site identification and due diligence using GIS or other mapping and database tools;
- Utility outreach and contract negotiations for the portfolio of projects;
- Collaborate with colleague departments including Engineering, Product, Operations, Facility Operations, Finance and Legal organizations in support of development process and success;
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously while actively contributing to financial modeling;
- Build and maintain a mutli-year pipeline of future projects;
- Direct outside consultant activities retained in support of development opportunities;
The successful candidate will have:
- 10+ years of leadership experience in project development, ideally in the fields of waste management, recycling, renewables, power trading and/or origination;
- Experience building and leading best in class project development teams;
- Strong and demonstrated business acumen and savvy in technology and process improvement
- Analytic skills combined with the ability to own a strategic development plan, internalizing market data, financial, and operational considerations;
- Demonstrated ability to develop new business relationships quickly and to negotiate and close business opportunities;
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, prioritize and work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic entrepreneurial environment;
- Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills, capable of tailoring to audiences as varied as CEO, government officials, as well as manual laborers;
- Strong strategic and financial acumen/skills with business model-orientation including developing/building detailed financial models, primary inputs and outputs alongside the ability to understand relevant strategic considerations;
- Excellent leadership ability and proven track record of success with team development;
- Project and process management abilities that are demonstrated by successfully managing multiple complex projects simultaneously across geographies and/or organizations;
- Individual drive and ability to push cross-functional teams to excel;
The successful candidate will have:
- Permission to work in the United States and ability to travel globally; and
- Impeccable integrity as well as ability to pass a comprehensive background screening.
- BA/BS degree, preferably in engineering or business, MBA or equivalent
Location: Preference for Denver, San Francisco, Atlanta but other locations are acceptable as well.
Compensation: $175,000 - $200,000 + Bonus + Equity
