Out&Back Outdoor, an online marketplace for new and used outdoor gear, has announced its acquisition of gear exchange company The Locals Sale. The acquisition will expand Out&Back’s inventory of outdoor gear and its efforts to promote sustainability and affordability in the outdoor industry. The Locals Sale, which offers pre-owned ski and snowboard gear from professional athletes, outdoor brands and others, will become a portfolio company of Out&Back, transferring ownership of its website, inventory, warehouse space and branded events to Out&Back.
The merger will allow Out&Back to access the resources needed to advance its business and continue its mission of gear recycling. By providing affordable gear and minimizing waste in the outdoors, the company aims to make outdoor activities more accessible to a wider audience. The acquisition also includes the consolidation of inventory, with more than 2,500 pairs of skis and snowboards, boots and snow accessories now available for customers to shop online.
As part of the merger, all employees of The Locals Sale will transition to join the Out&Back team, and the company will operate from a new hybrid office and fulfillment center at York Street Yards. Founder Jake Cohn will take on the role of director of winter sports business development and events, overseeing the company’s new fulfillment center and expanding its winter supply business.
