Every week, we dig through our events calendar and hand-select events worth checking out.

Photoshop for web developers, Jan 30 at 5:30 p.m.

Just like it’s important for designers to know some code, developers likewise could benefit from having experience with some design tools. Join CodeCraft and DevFaction for an interdisciplinary lecture and tutorial outlining web development tips and tricks, along with Photoshop for the web.

Visual design fundamentals, Jan. 31 at 6 p.m.

Learn the basics of digital design this week, thanks to General Assembly. Their workshop will cover design principles like composition, color theory and typography, and you’ll have an opportunity to use your new skills by tackling a creative brief.

Learn how to build a secure IoT app, Feb. 1 at 8:30 a.m.

The Internet of Things is pretty cool, but we’d all rather prevent robots (or hackers) from taking over the world. At this event, team members from Arrow Electronics will walk you through step-by-step demos of building secure IoT apps. Attendees will also get a free IoT Enabler Kit, so you can have the right tools you need to learn these hands-on skills.

View art in virtual reality, Feb. 2 at 8 p.m.

Head over to Syntax Physic Opera this week to check out the fusion of art and tech, where artists will live-paint in VR. Their works will explore how we relate to the concept of water, how technology has impacted our perception of art and how it can be used to improve the planet.

Note: the "coding for a cause" event previously listed here was cancelled after publication.
