In the heart of the Mile-High City is a hidden gem — a welcoming space featuring natural light, architectural details and custom art close to the public transit hub, restaurants, shops and parks.

It isn’t a gallery, event venue or boutique hotel, but Dynatrace’s office.

Senior Manager of Workplace Experience Chris McLuhan doesn’t just appreciate the spacious environment (the workspace covers the entire floor of the lower downtown Denver building it occupies), the beautiful live-edge table that anchors one of the open collaboration spaces and the ergonomic workspaces; he recognizes that the office’s physical features serve as more than just aesthetic and practical choices. They also advance Dynatrace’s dynamic and connected culture.

“We don’t have restricted seating, encouraging Dynatracers to sit with whoever, whenever — making for great in-person collaboration,” he said.

Dynatrace isn’t just thriving in its current location. As the team grows, so does its office space.

“As the innovation spirit thrives in Denver, we have just begun the process of expanding our office space to the floor below us,” McLuhan said. “Over the next 20 months, we’ll be developing and working on design plans for this new space.”

According to McLuhan, initial ideas include doubling the current workstation count, adding a multipurpose room for training sessions and meetings, and creating another gathering space with the potential to connect with the company’s cafe.

“The possibilities are endless, and we’re excited to share our unique atmosphere with current and future Dynatracers,” he said.

Built In sat down with McLuhan to learn more about Dynatrace’s office and the thriving culture it supports.

What is special about Dynatrace’s office space?

We have two key conversation pieces in our office. The first is a giant map of the world. Each quarter, the map has a theme such as “Where did you grow up?” With this, Dynatracers can learn more about each other by adding a pin to the map. The other piece is a wall of team members’ photos that features a Q&A. These areas demonstrate our positive culture of “Real vibes. Real people.” — and always lead to great chats!

Tell us about your favorite spot in the office. Why is it special to you and your fellow employees?

My favorite spot is the Front Range Cafe. This place has all-natural light, a warm color scheme and a variety of seating from diner-inspired booths to a comfy lounge space great for small team gatherings to our more traditional cafe-style tables and chairs. We offer free bean-to-cup coffee, tea, sodas, on-tap kombucha and cold brew. In addition, we have plenty of healthy snacks for whenever you need a break in your day. The cafe also boasts a giant, customized “Greetings from Denver” mural by the artist Victor “Ving” Fung, whose work is featured across the nation. This is the go-to selfie spot for everyone who visits us.

As this is where everyone comes to refuel, it’s a great spot to grab a bite to eat while getting to know your colleagues. Our cafe also features a top-shelf AV setup that allows us to host events that can be streamed globally to other Dynatrace offices. In fact, we’ve held many large team events here — even our holiday party. After work, we enjoy hosting events with local tech community groups and our Dynatrace employee resource groups. And sometimes, we simply have Dynatracers here for a night of games and activities.
