2. Sphero: $45 Million, June 3rd
Investors: Mercato Partners & Disney
Bio: Sphero is focused on bringing a new concept of fun through robotics and phone-controlled open devices. Their first product, Sphero, uses Orbotix’s API to create the first robotic ball gaming device controlled by your smartphone.
News: Sphero has been riding a wave of interest after it was announced that the new BB-8 drone featured in the new Star Wars: The Force Awakens' movie is powered by their technology.
1. Layer3 TV: $47.78 Million, June 3rd
Investors: North Bridge Venture Partners, Evolution Media Partners and 8 others.
Bio: Layer3 TV is a next generation cable provider spearheading a new era of home media, combining the best of television, social, and digital life.
News: Despite Layer3 TV’s large funding rounds, the company remains in stealth and has been very quiet about what they’re up to.
