A lot can change in the span of a decade.

Take Denver’s tech industry, where the number of tech startups founded in the city in 2012 came in at 84. According to The Denver Post, that number has skyrocketed to 352 in less than a decade.

Colorado’s draw as a major tech hub has been gradually growing in recent years and shows no signs of slowing in the future, despite the uncertain future the coming year presents. According to CompTIA, the state’s tech sector is projected to add 33,000 new jobs, a 22 percent increase, in the coming decade.

These promising predictions are good news for tech companies and workforces. But on an individual level, workers are understandably equally interested — if not more so — in how they fit into the big picture of the growing tech landscape.

For professionals on the hunt for new career opportunities, a company’s website can only tell you so much about where they are headed and how you would fit into the bigger picture. Job seekers can match career goals with supportive workplaces by learning from company leaders about their on-the-ground journeys at a company.

Built In Colorado spoke to leaders at NymblKPA and Motili to gain insights into their professional growth journeys and what differentiates their company cultures.

Jonathan Hoekstra
Vice President, National Accounts • Motili

Property managers, homeowners and investors can use Motili’s platform to manage their repair and replacement jobs from a single point of contact. The platform enables streamlined equipment ordering, service scheduling and more.

Describe your company culture in one word.

Agile. Our organization is growing and changing rapidly as we look to transform how national account customers interact with traditional manufacturing and contractor partnerships. Our team’s ability to stay agile and be proponents of change is a key driving component to our success. This aligns directly with our core values, including “competitiveness” and “action,” as we continuously push boundaries and bring customers value through new or enhanced technology solutions.

I am consistently learning from my teams and growing and developing as a leader.”

How long have you been at Motili, and what professional growth or development have you seen in that time?

I have been with Motili for three years. While I initially entered the organization as an individual contributor, I have moved through several leadership roles over the past several years. I am consistently learning from my teams and growing and developing as a leader through key mentorships with senior Motili leadership and corporate leadership within our parent organization.

Laura Schroeder
Director of Marketing • Nymbl Science

Healthtech company Nybml aims to help older adults age independently by using its fall prevention program. The program is founded on the idea that balance training is key to preventing falls.

Describe your company culture in one word.

Motivating. Nymbl’s culture is motivating in many ways, most specifically: 1.) Our organization’s focus on energizing and inspiring our employees to achieve performance, both personally and professionally, and 2.) Our rewarding and motivating mission of enhancing older adults’ quality of life and mobility. In our culture, our employees feel connected, are curious to explore new ways of thinking and are genuinely happy.

What’s the coolest project you’ve worked on recently, and how did it help you grow professionally?

The most rewarding project I’ve had the pleasure of working on is our Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG) partnership. We’ve partnered with the DRCOG to offer Nymbl’s balance training app for free to Colorado’s older adults — to enhance their quality of life and maintain their independence. This project has not only advanced our learnings and understanding of older adults and how they engage with marketing and brands but also put Nymbl on the map at a national level. Through this partnership, we launched the most successful fall prevention marketing and outreach program, outperforming the entire nation’s previous efforts by 15x! We are making a meaningful impact on the world.

Clinton Brown
SDR Manager • KPA

KPA offers software and solutions that help mid-sized organizations identify, fix and prevent workplace safety and compliance issues. While KPA is a remote-first company, its offices are based on employees’ needs and the desire for face-to-face collaboration.

Describe your company culture in one word.

Driven. For me, KPA has consistently been on a journey in becoming a leader in the Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) field. To be a part of a company that highly values the importance of others’ safety and wants all workers to make it home “with all ten fingers and ten toes” is truly amazing.

Being on the sales development team, we are able to work with these EHS professionals as they take their first steps in introducing our software, one of the most innovative products on the market, to their company. Day in and day out, our SDRs research, call, email and connect via LinkedIn to open a meaningful conversation between them and KPA. This hard work is integral not only in our sales process but in impacting the lives of those around us.

Since day one here, KPA has impacted my professional growth and emotional growth in so many positive ways!

How long have you been with the company, and what professional growth or development have you seen in that time?

I have been with KPA for just under a year, and prior to joining the team, I wasn’t in the EHS industry as a manager. Since day one here, KPA has impacted my professional growth and emotional growth in so many positive ways! I have had a great mentor in my leader, who has been open to new ideas, provided intuitive coaching and allowed me to take on challenging new projects.

At KPA I have been lucky enough to have assistance from multiple departments when it comes to building out our extraordinary SDR team. There is an undeniable camaraderie between the departments here, with the idea that to make a difference externally, we have to have a “one team, one dream” mindset internally.
