Denver-based edtech startup Elsmere Education has decided to grow its business in Colorado, adding 138 new jobs over the next eight years.

Founded in 2012, Elsmere Education helps colleges and universities research, develop, launch and market online graduate programs.

The company works with these institutions to identify unique, in-demand markets and develop online programs to serve students in these fields.

Elsmere has seen recent growth, adding 60 positions in 2020. As the company outgrew its Denver office space, CEO Justin McMorrow began to consider moving the company to Houston, where he was raised.

The Colorado Economic Development Commission in September agreed to give Elsmere $1.7 million in performance-based job growth incentive tax credits over an eight-year period if Elsmere reaches its goal of creating 138 new positions.

“While Houston was tempting for personal reasons, we ultimately decided that Colorado offered the best opportunity for growth and access to the talent pool we will need,” McMorrow said in a statement.

The 138 jobs will have an average annual wage of $85,490, which is 114 percent of the average annual wage in Denver County. The jobs will include operations support, administration, marketing and management

In a statement, Gov. Jared Polis said he was happy to see a small business succeed and expand in Colorado.

“Elsmere Education, a fast-growing, innovative company, will bring high-paying jobs in the education technology sector, which is well-positioned for strong future growth,” he said.
