Even in the midst of a pandemic, technology is still evolving. The new year looks to be no different.

In order to gain some insight into the tech trends they’re expecting to evolve and improve in 2021 — like the increased protection of users’ data and the rise of digital home exercise tools — Built In Colorado spoke with Jacob Shafer, vice president of technical services at Adswerve, and John Ford, chief product officer at EGYM. Here’s what Shafer and Ford had to say.

Protecting Users’ Privacy

“Users and companies are increasingly concerned with how their data is stored and shared,” Shafer said. “Our clients need solutions that will enable them to effectively manage and monitor their advertising campaigns in ways that protect their users’ privacy. Very few data engineers or data scientists at companies are familiar with these challenges today, but they will need to be in the immediate future.

“Privacy-safe big data environments like Google Ads Data Hub are growing in capability and impact. Adswerve already has been one of the first in the world to invest in these platforms by providing onboarding, training resources and support. By building solutions that utilize privacy-safe environments, we hope to help our clients future-proof their digital analytics capabilities while continuing to optimize advertising budgets. We see a ton of opportunities for data engineers and data scientists who are passionate about data privacy and understand digital marketing concepts like reach and frequency, audience activation, attribution and incrementality.”

The Future of Fitness

“The one thing I am watching for in 2021 is the rise of digital home exercise tools — Peloton, on-demand and streaming exercise platforms, etc.,” Ford said. “2020 has thrown us a curveball for every industry, and it will be interesting to see how these platforms grow and pivot as we start inching back to normal given the news of a vaccine. The popularity of these services have changed the landscape and I expect them to remain front and center next year.”

“The rich digital experiences these home exercise products provide are going to impact the consumer perception of commercial gym equipment, which is still largely analog. We are rapidly learning about how technology can be used to impact exercise motivation, and I believe that motivation is the primary problem our industry needs to solve. At EGYM, we are looking forward to meeting the growing demand for commercial gyms to digitize their offerings.”

John Ford is the chief product officer at EGYM, an integrated digital fitness platform.
