DISH Network to open a new Denver office, expects to add 100 jobs

Network announced today their plans to open an office in Downtown Denver, a move they expect will bring 100 jobs to Colorado’s tech market. The office will primarily house software development operations. They plan to expand their current software development capabilities to better serve their products and services, like their Hopper DVR platform and Sling TV, their streaming service.

The pay-TV subscription network already has strong Colorado ties; they were created here in 1980 and they already have ten major operations in Colorado, including their headquarters in Douglas County. DISH currently employs more than 4,000 people across Colorado, and they’re already recruiting for positions in the new location in Downtown Denver.

They were drawn to Downtown Denver as it’s the “heart of the thriving Denver tech community,” DISH senior vice president and Chief Information Officer Rob Dravenstott said in a statement. Following a period of urban renewal, the Union Station area has drawn a number of tech companies including , and the new WeWork coworking space.

DISH is renovating roughly 20,000 square feet in the historic Grand Central Building at 17th and Wazee. “DISH is a homegrown company, and it’s very encouraging to see one of our area’s key employers choosing to expand right within the heart of LoDo and our regional transit hub,” Denver Mayor Michael B. Hancock said in a statement. The office is expected to open in June of this year.
