ENA by Zayo is seeking a technical Wireless Engineer with expertise within the ratified IEEE 802.11 WiFi standards that encompass the ISM band frequencies and technologies that provide wireless mobility across LAN infrastructure. Our Wireless Engineer works closely with ENA's contractors, field operations, network engineering, product architects, product manager, and our Customer Technical Assistance Center (CTAC) to ensure ongoing effective operation of the ENA Air solution in all markets.
Primary Responsibilities
- Perform onsite RF surveys to determine AP placement and design for customer deployments. Document all RF and equipment settings during the survey for use during activation. Work with onsite cabling engineer on cable runs, MDF/IDF locations and switching needs.
- Implement and oversee system configurations to support customer requirements relating to ENA Air deployments. This includes interacting directly with customers to verify requirements and integration into local networks with a variety of possible local architecture environments.
- Provide support and design elements to integrate ENA Air into customer local LAN infrastructure with strong ability to navigate switch, routing, security (firewall, filtering), security policy (802.1x, WPA, WPA2, RADIUS, LDAP), and onboarding techniques and configurations.
- Provide troubleshooting and escalation support for the CTAC to quickly resolve customer incidents in an effective manner while communicating directly with customers and CTAC team members.
- Work in participation with product manager and system architects to implement best practice changes, product developments, and future capabilities to accommodate ongoing changes and needs of the ENA customer.
- Support network engineering with abilities to configure routing and switching across ENA Air equipment and premises routing equipment owned and operated by ENA engineers
- Coordinate and communicate among multiple teams not limited to Implementation Project Managers to ensure success of an overall project or installation.
- Interface with customers while on site and provide detailed feedback to other internal teams about customer expectations and requirements for ENA Air Wi-Fi installation and service
- Maintain keen and up-to-date knowledge of Wi-Fi protocol, authentication, and encryption standards as well as RF design, as those protocols evolve and change over time
- Act as subject matter expert regarding ENA Air managed Wi-Fi service in particular and Wi-Fi technology in general

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience:
- Minimum of 5 (five) years experience working within the IEEE 802.11 WiFi industry with active participation in configuration, site survey, troubleshooting and implementation of a broad range of projects in scope and size.
- Experienced with Mist as well as implementing controllerless (network manager) WiFi designs.
- Experienced working with various switching infrastructure implementing 802.1Q VLAN configurations to support the WiFi network.
- Cisco, HP, Juniper and other carrier class switching experience recommended.
- Experience with routing topologies, subnetting, interior gateway protocols (OSPF, EIGRP, static) highly recommended to implement full featured systems with NAT, DHCP, VLSM addressing.
- Experienced with command line (serial connection) configuration within devices with strong ability to navigate Cisco IOS.
- Experienced working with multiple site survey methodologies and testing equipment including Ekahau, Fluke or other testing devices and interfaces.
- Able to read heat maps and survey reports as well as generate each as necessary utilizing provided site survey tools.
Language Skills:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, or technical procedures. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and effectively respond to questions from groups of managers and customers. Must have excellent written and oral presentation skills.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
Work Environment:
The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
Work Hours:
Company hours to accommodate our customer's needs. Late night maintenance and emergency trouble restoration will be required as necessary. This is an exempt position so the hours of work will be dependent on the work that needs to be addressed to accomplish the work ascribed to this position
Travel:
Travel up to 50-70% of the time. Travel to customer locations 2-3 days per week on average.
A valid driver's license is required.
Base Pay Range: $78,500 - $110,000 commensurate with experience
