The Role

Salary range: $88,500 - $111,000

A Brief Overview
Responsible for installation, configuration, administration, support, and maintenance of Microsoft Windows and Linux servers and applications in a 24x7 enterprise environment. Participates in all aspects of the research, planning, design, and documentation for assigned projects. Analyze customer requirements to provide highly available, secure solutions. Participate in on-call rotations and after-hours work as required by system implementations, outages or upgrades.
What you will do

  • Administer and support virtual servers and applications that run on Microsoft Windows and Linux operating systems.
  • Participate in the evaluation and implementation of projects and applications involving existing and new technical solutions.
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software problems; coordinate resolution with internal technical resources and external vendors.
  • Provide escalation support to technical support staff/teams to assist in troubleshooting or problem resolution.
  • Maintain documentation of assigned systems in Confluence, update hardware assets on an on-going basis; include documentation updates as an integral part of every project.
  • Administer and support tools that are used to monitor and tune application performance.
  • Monitor the capacity and performance of systems and software applications and make recommendations for improvements and tuning as necessary.
  • Research and implement automated processes to improve operational efficiency.
  • Design and architect new solutions following procedures listed in the Infrastructure Department Policies and Procedures manual as well as the Information Protection Policy manual.
  • Collaborate with other Technology staff and third party vendors for the implementation of new applications or upgrades to existing systems.
  • Follow change control procedures during new implementations and changes to existing systems.
  • Participate in security audits, and collaborate with the Security and Audit teams to resolve findings.
  • Maintain and update operating system security patches.
  • Maintain and update platform applications as required.
  • Maintain knowledge of current and developing technologies, recommend evaluation of emerging technologies that would benefit Technology and Infrastructure teams.
  • Use Jira and Agile methodologies to communicate with management on the status of projects and utilize SCRUM and Sprints to complete project work.
  • Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
  • Understand and comply with all provisions of the Safety in the Workplace policy.


Minimum Requirements

  • Typically requires a bachelor's degree in related field and a minimum of 2 years of related experience.
  • A combination of post-high school education, job related certification and related experience equivalent to 5 years may be considered in lieu of minimum requirements


Preferred Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or other technical field


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong organizational skills; ability to balance responsibilities of multiple projects and operations support while meeting agreed upon objectives.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise Windows and Linux operating systems and administration.
  • Working knowledge and expertise in PowerShell and BASH scripting.
  • Knowledge of Ansible playbooks and how to incorporate them into automation.
  • In-depth technical problem-solving skills.
  • Strong customer service skills. Ability to communicate with professionalism, diplomacy and tact.
  • Strong understanding of LAN protocols and technologies, such as TCP/IP and Ethernet; ability to troubleshoot network services such as DNS, FTP and HTTP.
  • Strong understanding of virtual networks and controlling access between virtual networks; ability to troubleshoot server to server communication problems between secure networks.
  • Strong understanding of LAN hardware, such as servers, switches, and storage systems; ability to learn new systems and integrate them into the Infrastructure.
  • Ability to create, implement and maintain information security standards at the operating system and application levels.
  • Ability to implement highly available solutions; implement server clusters using various clustering technologies and server farms using load balancers.
  • Ability to integrate and troubleshoot various directory technologies such as Active Directory and LDAP.
  • Good understanding of communication/data encryption technologies, web applications, and Relational Database Systems.
  • Good working knowledge of data communication topologies and protocols.


Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

  • Frequently remains stationary throughout a typical business day.
  • Frequently operates a computer and other office machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
  • Occasionally moves about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, and other rooms.
  • Occasionally positions self to access drawers and shelves of various heights.
  • Frequently reaches for and handles paperwork and files.
  • Constantly communicates with customers, coworkers, and management in-person and on the phone.
  • Must be able to exchange accurate information.
  • FirstBank does not currently offer fully remote positions, except as required by law. The actual number of in-office days that may be required will vary by business unit, role, and business need.
