We are currently looking to fill the following position in our Denver, CO office:

Scrum Master

At Valen, we are in an accelerated growth phase as an organization.  As a Scrum Master, you will be a key performer to help our existing product and services teams meet rapidly growing client needs, market demands, etc., while also help ensuring new hires are trained / onboarded to seamlessly join Valen.  The ideal candidate will understand the twists and turns of growth companies and will thrive in a dynamic and changing environment.    

What you’ll be doing:

Educate Colleagues

  • Develop and lead training sessions on Agile principles / methodologies for onboarding of new team members to ensure organization-wide adoption  
  • Coach the team on Agile best practices to ensure quality and on-time delivery including test driven development, test automation, continuous delivery, etc. 
  • Assist Product Owners to ensure backlog is well defined and organized as well as develop short term and long-term release plans by gathering functional requirements for developers 
  • Work with the VP of Services on standard KPIs that are visible to all stakeholders and reported on a regular cadence  

Mentor Team 

  • Mentor teams, leading them to be self-directed with strong accountability, decision making, conflict resolution and transparency  
  • Coach teams, Client Relationship Executives, Solution Architects, Managers and Executives on Agile values and principles to promote continuous improvement in practices and artifacts 
  • Provide hands-on support to all employees to help further understanding and adoption of Agile 

 Develop Agile Adoption Strategy 

  • Design and implement a strategy to ensure organizational adoption of Agile 
  • Ability to perform assessments of the current Agile practices to determine areas for improvement 
  • Strive for excellence by driving continuous improvement initiatives, which encourage the adoption of agile practices and result in improved project execution 

 Implement Agile Methodology 

  • Use techniques that increase collaboration, predictability, transparency and promote a culture of experimentation and innovation 
  • Champion cultural change and collaborate with other team members on plans and techniques for accelerating and advancing the organization's transformation 
  • Track and share Agile recommended practices through participation in Agile communities and adoption of continuous learning, keeping current with industry trends and Agile framework and patterns 

What you’ll need:

  • Servant leader who truly believes in making the team successful above themselves 
  • Must possess great interpersonal skills along with strong communication skills and teaching abilities 
  • Understands the value of iterative, incremental value creation 
  • Capacity to inspire and motivate others  
  • Prior experience coaching teams in Agile adoption preferred 
  • Light technical knowledge around software development cycles and software engineering practices is important 

Additional skills 

  • CSM® (Certified ScrumMaster) 
  • Knowledge of Agile frameworks such as Scrum, Kanban, and others from which to draw practices that can be leveraged to help make the team successful 
  • PMP experience preferred 
  • Familiarity with Targetprocess, Jira, other project management tools a plus 
  • Experience working with data and software teams 
  • Knowledge of metrics related to Agile and use of them to report back to Valen team members at all levels including the Valen leadership team 
  • 3+ years of Scrum / Agile management 
  • 4-year college degree
