We are seeking a Risk and Compliance Manager to join our team and help us achieve our ambitious goals for our business and for the planet.

What you get to do:

As the Risk and Compliance Manager you will be responsible for identifying, assessing, inventorying, evaluating, prioritizing and managing organization-wide efforts in avoiding, minimizing, and mitigating risks to the company. You will work cross-functionally to gather information, develop processes, and promote best practices to manage explicit and implicit flow-through of risks for the company. You will be responsible for implementing and maintaining key processes, policies, and controls to enhance the Company’s control environment.  Your role will have high visibility to the Uplight executive team, and some interaction with the board of directors. 

What you will contribute:

• Conduct a thorough risk assessment of the risks and threats that are present for the Company. 
• Syndicate understanding of potential impacts and likelihood throughout the organization as appropriate by function, including to sales, customer success, operations and IT, evaluation, product, and finance
• Prepare an annual risk and compliance plan and report on such to the Board of Directors each quarter.
• Support development of standardized work processes to incorporate ongoing risk assessment and management throughout the organization
• Partner with the Contracts team to review compliance related portions of RFPs and contracts and ensure that terms are in accordance with the Uplight process, processes and coverage
• Manage Uplight’s annual Enterprise Risk Assessment process. 
• Partner with internal and/or contracted cybersecurity and contracting experts to develop policies and practices that ensure maintenance of cybersecurity excellence throughout the company
• Develop internal and external processes for new compliance and privacy related regulatory requirements. This includes the development of process, policy, implementation, training and adherence to the requirements of the law. This may include things such as CCPA, GDRP, etc. 
• Key liaison with external counsel on risk and compliance items and issues 
• Key liaison with Engineering Cybersecurity team 
• Create and manage security and compliance initiatives agreed with the board 
• Perform quarterly assessments  around Company controls
• Manage and develop the process to a successful SOC 2 audit and serve as the main point of contact to third party audit.  
• Coordinate and liaison with IT Security 
• Develop and supervise delivery of risk management training plan
• Develop and supervise training to help new and existing staff understand aspects of the regulatory environment that are relevant to their roles (e.g., revenue requirement and budget issues, energy efficiency resource standards, software capitalization) 

What you bring to Uplight:

• 7-10 years working in a compliance related role. 
• Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills, in one-on-one and small group settings, including executives and board members.
• Ability to discuss difficult topics in a constructive and collaborative way.
• Demonstrated understanding of emerging issues in retail and/or distribution level energy industry required, with an established expertise in regulatory compliance. Foundational knowledge of SaaS and software, energy system utilities, energy policy & regulation, and/or demand-side management is a plus. 
• Approximate 10% travel estimated to Uplight satellite offices and occasional meetings. 
• Proactive, independent thinker prepared to find and deliver new ways to bring value to the firm, and bring new ideas, tools, and work process improvements to our clients, partners, 

Bonus Points:

• Regulated utility industry or Software industry a plus. 
• Saas experience
