Network Administrator
Part-time Network Administrator for a non-profit Wireless Internet Service Provider - responsible for maintaining a reliable, secure and efficient data network. The ideal candidate will be able to deploy, configure, maintain and monitor all active network equipment in order to ensure smooth network operation. A working background in Mikrotik routers is a plus.
Excellent opportunity to gain valuable knowledge in the field of IP networking and wireless / RF deployment.
We are looking for candidates that want to help take Au Wireless to the next level and help design and deploy network segments as well as maintain existing network. On the job training is available.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor network performance (availability, utilization, throughput, and latency) and test for weaknesses
- Prioritize and plan network upgrades and repairs
- Troubleshoot network issues
- Perform equipment configuration and setup
- Network documentation
- Layer 2 (basic switching and bridging, VLANs) and Layer 3 (static routing, OSPF) administration
- Network Services (DNS, SMTP , HTTP) administration
- Install / maintain wireless Internet hardware as well as associated equipment
Skills
- Understanding of Layer 2 Networking (Switching and bridging principles, VLANs, and STP/MSTP)
- Understanding of Layer 3 Networking (Static Routing, OSPF)
- Must demonstrate the desire to learn, supported with a love for technology
- Must be able to be very flexible with tasks
- Must demonstrate personal accountability in order to set priorities, organize workload, handle multiple responsibilities, and meet deadlines
- Be able to work outside in all weather conditions
Au Wireless is a 501(c)3 co-op Wireless Internet Service Provider (WISP) located in Golden, CO providing high-speed Internet to homes and small businesses in the Golden area via fixed microwave. The network administrator will work with the founder to maintain the current network and participate in the planning/deployment of future growth. Network administrator will share customer & network support issues. Estimated 10 - 15 hours / week with anticipation of making a full time position within 6 - 9 months.
