Position Description
The Assistant Controller is responsible for all day-to-day product accounting activities including general ledger, and preparation of balance sheet, income statement and cash flows for 6 product groups. Fiber Solutions owns the fiber assets of Zayo Group and serves enterprise customers across North America and Europe with over $800M in annualized revenue and ~$640M in annualized EBITDA. This position will manage a team of product accountants, and work closely with Zayo Group’s Corporate Team in Boulder/Denver, Colorado. The position will report to the Controller of Fiber Solutions and lead a team of 15 employees.
Responsibilities
- Manage monthly, quarterly and annual accounting close process, including at the product group level.
- Validate monthly balance sheet reconciliations are accurate and maintained and ensure appropriate action taken to maintain healthy balance sheet support: determination of accrual/reserve adequacy to ensure revenue and expenses are properly reported.
- Prepare, review, or validate and/or approve general ledger journal entries.
- Prepare and analyze monthly consolidated financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Assist and/or prepare with the creation of ad hoc reporting and analysis as needed.
- Assist with special projects as required.
- Assist, as needed, in coordinating quarterly reviews/year-end audit with the external and internal auditors, including the preparation of audit lead schedules, support for audit requests, work papers, financial statement and footnote support.
- Work with others within the department and organization to meet the financial goals of the organization.
- Provide training on accounting processes and systems.
- Recruit, hire, develop and coach accounting staff.
- Any other responsibilities that may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications
- Minimum of ten (10) years Accounting experience within a corporate office environment and at least five (5) years in progressive managerial capacity.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Advanced knowledge of US GAAP; CPA preferred.
- Proficient with integrated accounting systems and databases. Experience with Oracle a plus.
- Advanced Excel skills and proficient with other MS Office (Word, PowerPoint).
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- Possess excellent analytical skills.
- Ability to manage and mentor a team while focusing on outcomes.
- Results-oriented, hands-on manager, with ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to deal with reporting deadlines.
- Ability to communicate at all levels within the organization.
- Adept at working in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Telecommunications industry knowledge/experience a plus.
- Understand foreign currency translations.
