Data Infrastructure Engineer
Summary
The Data Infrastructure Engineer will be an instrumental part of data workflows throughout the organization. This role will design and build libraries and distributed services to support multiple data analytics teams and business intelligence engineers reliably and at scale using aws cloud environments. This role will be responsible for providing cutting edge, reliable, and easy to use infrastructure for ingesting and processing data and help the teams that build data intensive applications be successful. The Data Infrastructure Engineer will work with many cross-functional teams and lead the planning, execution, and success of technical projects with the ultimate purpose of improving customer experience. The role will partner with our Platform Operations team on the data infrastructure used for analytics and machine learning within our clients teams. This infrastructure stores, processes, and serves data for business partners within all organizations across Workiva. This role will work primarily with Data Engineers, but also Data Scientists, and ML Engineers to ensure the reliability, performance and security at the highest level.
What You'll Do
- Manage data infrastructure supporting both internal customers in the team and business partners across Workiva.
- Take part in designing and building out our cutting edge data storage and processing infrastructure to push our services to the next level
- Diagnose, fix, improve, and automate complex issues across the entire stack to ensure maximum uptime and performance
- Collaborate across the team on proper use and integration of our platform
- Write code, documentation, participate in code reviews, and mentor other engineers
- Monitor and improve the health of the user experience in the data warehouse and database
- Apply scalable access and permissions for individuals and service accounts across the entire data infrastructure
- Recommend and implement system designs that are cost efficient
What You'll Need
Education
- Undergraduate Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field.
- Related fields may include Computer Science, Engineering, Math, Finance or Statistics
- 2+ years of relevant experience in a data infrastructure role, including data warehousing tools, techniques and technology
- Statistics, ML or data analytics experience preferred
- Experience with distributed systems like big data processing/streaming/storage engines (e.g., Apache Hadoop, Apache Spark, Apache Kafka, Apache Hudi), different Cloud environments (e.g. AWS, GCP)
- Experience with computing (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker, AWS ECS), storage (S3, DataStore, GCS) systems and defining new systems via infrastructure as code
- Experience with alerting, monitoring and remediation automation in a large scale distributed environment
- Experience programming experience in SQL and Java, Scala or Python.
- Interest or knowledge in using public or private Kubernetes frameworks for scaling data and services infrastructure
- Exposure to workflow engines (Argo, Airflow)
- Experience with designing and implementing IAM and permission schemes in cloud based environments such as AWS and GCP
- Experience securing data at rest and in transit
- Experience in an Agile/Sprint working environment preferred
- Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills and an ability to effectively communicate with both business and technical teams
- Strong planning and organizing skills to prioritize numerous projects and ensure data is delivered in an accurate and understandable manner to the end user
- Up to 10% travel
- Reliable internet access for any period of time working remotely, not in a Workiva office.
How You'll Be Rewarded
- Base Pay Range in Colorado: $90,000 - $127,000
- A discretionary bonus typically paid annually
- Restricted Stock Units granted at time of hire
The base pay range represents the low and high end of the hiring range for this job. Actual pay will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to relevant skills, experience, and capabilities.
