About the Role

CircleCI is looking for a Staff level Engineer who is interested to help build the future of our databases. As CircleCI continues to scale we need to ensure our databases scale along with the needs of our customers. You will join a distributed team whose core mission is to help scale the CircleCI platform and enable thousands of developers to do better work every single day.

This role reports to our Engineering Manager of SRE, Rob Braden.

What you will do

The successful applicant will be ownership of CircleCI production databases. You will be responsible for setting a high level of excellence and expectations when it comes to how engineering teams access and use production databases. We make extensive use of Postgres and MongoDB and you should have a deep understanding of these two pieces of technology.

  • Ensure the high availability of production databases and durability of data
  • Define and implement effective observability & SLOs for production databases
  • Automation of operational toil
  • Analyze database capacity and plan for growth
What you'll bring
  • 4+ years of professional experience operating and scaling large datastores
  • Experience contributing to a team as a collaborative technical leader. This can be as a team lead, a tech lead, or a lead role on a large, long-running project with significant impact.
  • You are comfortable navigating the ambiguity and change of a rapidly-growing company.
  • You work openly within a fully distributed organization.
  • Experience being on call.
