THE MISSION:

THE ROLE: 

We are searching for an experienced Machine Learning Engineer to join the data team to help power & optimize our product surfaces such as search, job recommendation alerts, etc. In addition to working with product and design to integrate our machine learning services into the application, you’ll also be responsible for improving our training, offline evaluation, deployment, A/B test evaluation, and monitoring methodologies of our machine learning models. You will help to scope machine learning projects in conjunction with the product and data teams by effectively translating engineering, business & product constraints & queries into tractable data science questions.

Within 1 month, you’ll: 

  • Have a good grasp of the product & the business challenges
  • Have spun up our environments locally and trained a model on your machine
  • Have launched an AB test with a new model variant

Within 3 months, you’ll: 

  • Have improved our offline model evaluation methodology
  • Have rolled out a model that contributes to the company’s bottom line
  • Have implemented a completely different algorithm for one production model

Within 6 months, you’ll:

  • Have rolled out multiple models that contribute to the company’s bottom line
  • Have implemented additional model monitoring systems in place
  • Have rolled out a brand new model in an area of our product that was not powered by machine learning before

Our data team is structured such that each individual has the opportunity to materially impact our company goals.  We work in two-week sprints and meet regularly to discuss blockers and address needs from the team while making time to focus on our work by protecting everyone’s work schedules.

THE SKILL SET: 

  • 4-6 years in machine learning & data science in real world scenarios
  • Proficiency in machine learning with experience in areas such as gradient boosting and ranking
  • Strong programming skills in Python (scikit-learn, pandas, numpy)
  • Ability to write SQL queries for data exploration & feature generation
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and the capability to drive cross-functional requirements with product and engineering teams
  • Persistence, patience and a great sense of ownership & curiosity – we build the decision making that enables candidates & recruiters to place their trust in Vivian!

THE NICE TO HAVES: 

  • Experience with deploying and optimizing production Machine Learning models with SageMaker
  • Experience in optimizing search
  • Experience building machine learning & offline evaluation pipelines at startups 
  • Experience in using real time streaming data to populate feature stores for on-line predictions
  • Experience with DynamoDB, Lambda or Elastic Beanstalk

THE SALARY, BENEFITS & PERKS:

The range for this position is $150,000 - $190,000 yearly salary, dependent on job-related, non-discriminatory factors such as experience, education, and skills. This range is based on a full-time schedule.
