Technical leadership position for a Systems Engineer with experience architecting space or ground systems, and who is creative, flexible, and comfortable handling many diverse and sometimes open-ended assignments.
The Engineering, Science and Analysis (ESA) Strategic Capabilities Unit comprises the technical talent and organizational leadership that enables the successful delivery of high-impact discriminating technologies for our customers' missions. What You'll Do:
- Algorithm Development to include but not limited to image processing, clutter suppression, detection, estimation, open- and closed-loop tracking, uncorrelated track determination, Target Object Mapping, Initial Orbit Determination (IOD) and/or Orbit Determination (OD).
- Develop embedded, real-time, image processing and/or tracker processing algorithms using temporal, spatial, and/or spectral processing of EOIR data.
- Support the architecture, design, and development of algorithms, software, and hardware systems for a variety of applications including mission data processing systems for Remote Sensing, Space Situational Awareness, Rendezvous and Proximity Operations, Tactical Solutions, and more.
- Perform system engineering plus modeling & simulation for a variety of tactical and surveillance missions leveraging Model Based Systems Engineering.
- Provide engineering support across multiple and diverse new business pursuits by developing concepts to meet customer space mission needs.
- Objectively define, execute, and report on trade studies that provide data for decision making to our customers.
- Develop metrics to evaluate concepts that represent mission utility for the customer.
- Prepare and give presentations to peers/management/customers.
- Provide technical direction to junior engineers through the development lifecycle.
- Lead technical proposal development.
- Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
- Perform other duties as necessary.
On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.
Working Conditions:
- Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment.
- May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.
- May access other facilities in various weather conditions.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills
- BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 16 or more years related experience.
- Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master's Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
- A current, active Top Secret security clearance is required.
- Customer Relationships: Extensive knowledge of missions and customers across core technologies areas. Knowledge/experience working with critical customer base, established relationships with key personnel within customer community.
- Demonstrated experience leading multi-disciplinary teams in relevant business environments.
- Demonstrated experience in developing and analyzing mission concepts, including space, launch, and ground components.
- Demonstrated experience in all phases of hardware program execution, including early planning, design reviews, manufacture, assembly, integration, test, sell-off, and on-orbit mission operation.
- Demonstrated experience in systems engineering processes, including requirements development, concept of operations, requirement allocation, change management, verification, and validation.
- Superb presentation skills with documented presentation experience to senior decision making and technical audiences.
- Experience with computational science and/or applying advanced math skills to engineering problems.
- Demonstrated ability to independently solve new algorithm challenges and generate high-level code to develop and analyze algorithm performance.
- Experience with Matlab, Python, or C++.
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
- Degree(s) in Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Math, Physics.
- MS in Physics/Engineering Systems or a related technical field.
- Experience working in and with controlled, classified security environments Track Processing and/or Image Processing.
- Artificial Intelligence / Deep Learning.
- Mission Data Processing experience in OPIR.,
- Space Situational / Domain Awareness (SSA / SDA), and/or Space Control.
- Data Processing for Remote Sensing or other raw data through actionable products.
- GPU, FPGA, and/or High-Performance Computing (cluster) processing implementations.
- Initial Orbit Determination, Orbit Determination, and/or 3D trajectory estimation.
- Understanding and/or experience with implementation of embedded systems.
- Understanding and/or experience with spectral phenomenology.
Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $173000 - $218000
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
