Senior Data Platform Engineer

Abl believes every student deserves the opportunity to make informed and meaningful choices about their life and future. Abl offers advanced, data-driven software and services to help K12 schools and districts identify and remove those inequities. Abl’s Data Science team is at the forefront of this challenge, driving scalable data-driven student impact and partnering with other teams to experiment with differentiated product development that has a positive impact on student outcomes. Abl is currently doing this work with some of the largest districts in the country, such as Los Angeles Unified, New York Dept of Ed, Portland Public Schools, Denver Public Schools, and the state of Washington. The Abl team is made up of veteran school leaders, district-level decision-makers, and teachers working together with veteran software engineers, designers, and data scientists. 

We are looking for a Senior Data Platform Engineer who is excited to build critical infrastructure to make data useful, building out a platform that will empower data scientists to directly impact and iterate on our customer-facing products. As Abl’s first data platform engineer, you will collaborate with data scientists and engineers to design, scope, and build a suite of tools to scalably leverage high-impact data in customer-facing applications and internal analysis.

• Collaboratively drive the technical vision for the Abl data science platform, a suite of tools that enables us to leverage our exceptional data to deliver insights and predictions to customers and internal users. In collaboration with Data Science and Engineering, you will identify opportunities for our technical roadmap to accelerate our short and long-term impact, value, and business goals. 

• Design, build, and scale data warehouse infrastructure, tools for workflow execution, and user-facing recommendations.

• Support data scientists in building scalable, efficient, data pipelines.

• Report to the Head of Data Science and collaborate with Engineering to design and build scalable processes and systems that promote clear team responsibilities and reduce hand-offs.

• Help define data platform engineering at Abl.

• You have experience supporting transforming application/OLTP data to analytics/OLAP data: you have worked on infrastructure that includes things like databases, workflow management, containerization, and ETL/ELT pipelines, at multiple orders of magnitude of data scale.
