Summary:
MediaNews Group is seeking an experienced, full-time Sports Content Manager for its southeastern Pennsylvania properties. The Sports Content Manager will be responsible for the sports content for multiple properties in the Pennsylvania group's digital and print publications, and for collaborating with local and regional staff to achieve strategic long-term and tactical day-to-day digital traffic and print readership growth.
What you will do:

• Oversees the day-to-day work of the local sports coordinators and their teams
• Leads by example and owns a vision for audience-focused, digitally-savvy publications
• Understands the tradition of solid, tough journalism and translate this to print sports sections and digital publications across Pennsylvania
• Responsible for copy editing, headline-writing, and coordinating with print pagination hub
• Managerial duties in conjunction with the Regional Sports Editor for properties including but not limited to the Reading Eagle, The Morning Call (Allentown), The Mercury (Pottstown), The Daily Local News (West Chester), The Reporter (Lansdale) and The Times Herald (Norristown)
• Serve both print and digital content needs and ensure standards are met by staff and freelancers
• Treats users as partners and engage them in the group's sports content creation efforts
• Identifies risks that should be taken and changes to be made, and prioritize them by weighing short-term and long-term needs, risks and rewards
• Consistently meet and exceed deadline expectations for production
• Contribute to a positive culture of teamwork and collaboration

What you will bring:

• Degree in journalism, communication or equivalent experience
• Experience at a daily newspaper or online news outlet with at least 3 years in a managerial role preferred
• Relevant experience includes news reporting and writing, copy editing, staff management
• Strong writing, editing, reporting, fact-checking, organizational and story structure skills
• Exemplary news judgment in service to a local-minded readership
• Experience with WordPress, content management systems and SEO knowledge
• Understands imperatives of emerging and existing platforms, including web, mobile and print
• The role requires a highly-communicative individual who will bring a hard-working, positive attitude to a transitioning team
• Must be available to work evenings, weekends and/or holidays with flexibility as schedule requires
• This a remote position but the individual must live in the region or have knowledge of the region and local sports; ability to cover events and related assignments in the field, providing own means of transportation
