What are we looking for?

  • Title: Senior Product Manager
  • Compensation: $115,000 to $145,000
  • Reports To: CEO

We are looking for a Senior Product Manager (SPM) that will lead the next stage of growth of our flagship product.  Specifically, this person will be tasked with overseeing and delivering our product roadmap in alignment with the company’s strategy.

As a team of one, the SPM will wear both the Product Owner and Product Manager hats, working closely with the CEO to implement the product roadmap.  This is a new formal position for Documoto, thus there is substantial opportunity for the SPM to influence the trajectory of the role.

This will be a demanding role.  You will learn Documoto better than nearly all of our employees.  You will learn about our customer’s present and future needs better than they do.  We are not looking for an SPM to lay down burdensome processes and procedures, though some structure is required.  Instead, we want an agile and committed individual that is willing to move fast, work hard, get in the details, learn deeply, and do whatever it takes to make your co-workers, our customers, and ultimately the company succeed.  As befitting the importance of this role, you will be part of the leadership team and will have influence over our strategy.

Who are you?

First, the role we are seeking doesn’t scare you but rather intrigues you.  You know your strengths and want to be in an environment where you can put them to use.  You aren’t afraid to roll up your sleeves and get to work.  You can write user stories in the morning and do strategic roadmap planning in the afternoon.  The fact that you’re (initially) a team of one is exciting because you want to make a real, tangible difference.

You know that being a good SPM requires excellent analytic skills to evaluate, validate, and optimize product/market fit.  You live and breathe the customer pain points and think carefully about how we can solve them.  You also know the realities of satisfying a lot of different constituents – the art of the possible.

You are not autocratic – you recognize we have smart people with unique experiences, and they know their job better than you.  Instead, you find ways to incorporate their perspectives into what you do.

When you make promises, you deliver.  No excuses.

You maintain high standards for your work in terms of accuracy, completeness, and efficiency. You’re highly adaptable, able to embrace others’ ideas, and change course when necessary. You seek initiative: volunteer readily; undertake self-development activities; seek increased responsibilities; take independent actions and calculated risks. You thrive in fast-paced environments, learn quickly, are flexible, and able to roll with changing scenarios.

Importantly, you embrace our core values of transparency, honesty, and accountability.

What Would You Do?

You will be the founding member of the new Product Management team within Documoto.  Initially, you will perform all duties ascribed to product management, assuming them from various de facto holders including our CEO, Director of Services, and Architect.  As you master these roles, and as the company succeeds, there will likely be opportunities to hire and manage a team while you assume more strategic duties.

As Product Owner:

  • Break down epics, develop mockups, write good stories and acceptance criteria
  • Manage and prioritize stories on the board
  • Approve work and conduct demos
  • Work closely with the engineering team to get work out the door
  • Manage Documoto releases with our QA team and author release notes

As Product Manager:

  • Learn about our market, pain points, competition, and our solution
  • Implement the PM strategy and framework
  • Prioritize initiatives in alignment with the company strategy
  • Work closely with the Professional Services team to gain a deep understanding of our customers and their needs
  • Work closely with Sales to identify possible solutions to ease sales friction
  • Manage the Documoto roadmap and our feedback system
  • Implement PM data collection and analytics
  • Collaborate and support sales, marketing, service, and operations
  • Develop standards for DOD (definition of done) and NFR (non-functional requirements)
  • Develop UI/UX standards including style/design guides
  • Develop and execute go-to-market plans
  • Internal/external communication and product evangelist
  • Work closely with the CEO on product vision/direction/initiatives
  • Contribute cross-functionally
  • Participate as a core member of the Documoto leadership team.
  • Hire and manage outstanding individuals as new hires are approved, based on the growth of the function and company

What Makes You a Great Fit?

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent work experience
  • 7+ years in technical consulting, I/T, business analysis, or commercial software development
  • 4+ years as a product manager, with a majority of your time in SaaS web applications
  • Comfortable with strategic and operational discussions with customers
  • Excellent knowledge of cloud architectures, web services, and software deployments
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Some experience in responsive application design
  • Some experience in hiring, firing, performance management, executive communication
  • Solid understanding of software development principles, testing, Agile methodologies
  • Must have the ability to prioritize, organize, and execute in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, often with little oversight
  • Must be data-driven and analytical; an ability to define, extract, report, and measure results using SQL, advanced Excel analysis, and/or multi-dimensional data structures
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Ability and desire to build positive and fruitful relationships with your co-workers
  • Strong ability to resolve conflicts constructively; a great attitude
  • Preferred: Understanding of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, browser debugging
  • Preferred: Understanding of SQL and NoSQL data stores
  • Preferred: Experience in equipment manufacturing, MRP, engineering, and/or eCommerce
  • Plus: Experience in CAD, 3D, technical documentation, visualization, or image manipulation
