Your Impact 

Handshake is hiring a Senior Product Manager reporting to the VP of Product on the Spark Engagement team. You will lead our Advocates squad. Advocates is our term for the people who have the jobs students want. Advocates work for employers who use Handshake, but they aren’t recruiters. They may be engineers, marketers, teachers, finance professionals, scientists or any number of other professions. They are often recent college graduates with a strong connection to their alma mater. They serve as a gateway for students to the world of careers and full-time employment.

You will be responsible for activating and engaging Advocates on Handshake. In doing so you’ll open up vast new opportunities for students to develop meaningful connections as they begin their careers. We view this as one of Handshake’s most important initiatives over the next several years. Right now, Advocates form a small slice of the active employer users on Handshake. If you’re successful, Advocates will outnumber recruiters many times over as active users of Handshake.

You’ll be part of the Spark Engagement team, a close-knit cross-marketplace team building experiences for both students and employers. In addition to the Advocates squad, other squads on the Spark Engagement team include the Messaging squad and the Campaigns squad. In addition to working with engineers, designers, user researchers and analysts, you’ll also collaborate closely outside of R&D with product marketing, sales and customer success. All the while, you’ll be mindful about making positive societal impact, including improving diversity, equity and inclusion in early talent recruiting.

Your Role

As a senior product manager, you’ll plan and deliver a roadmap to:  

  • Expand and innovate: how Advocates onboard and use Handshake, how they are introduced to students, and how these users form meaningful connections with one another

  • Engage users: whether they are Advocates, other employer users or students

  • Drive marketplace value: continually strive to identify and optimize the key points of value creation across all three sides of the network

You’ll own the lifecycle end-to-end for your product area, including:

  • Product development process: Leading a high performing cross-functional squad, including engineering and design partners, from research and roadmap planning to delivery 

  • Launch and adoption: Partner closely on go-to-market and implementation. You never hesitate to roll up your sleeves and tackle something hands-on. It’s never someone else’s problem. You’ll run beta programs and pilots to maximize learning and minimize code investment, getting close to the customer and the details through the process. 

  • Cross-Handshake partnership: Work with stakeholders across Handshake to innovate quickly but deliberately

  • Goals, metrics and tracking: Create a robust and clear thread of data from strategy through development through in-market iteration.

Your Experience

  • Strong foundation in roadmap development and releasing products for complex, multifaceted marketplace businesses or SaaS platforms.

  • 5+ years partnering with engineering teams to ship code. Ideally in a many-stakeholder environment with dependencies and collaboration. 

  • Strong systems and analytical thinker. Can connect the dots, spot challenges and edge cases, integrate multiple considerations.

  • Extensive experience presenting both internally and externally including working with customers, users, and internal cross-functional partners and executives.

  • Working knowledge of SaaS products including solving for more than one user persona.

  • Experience working at a consumer marketplace, ideally a B2B2C marketplace like Handshake

  • User focused. You dive headfirst into understanding the needs of employers and build products grounded in data and research.

Compensation Range

  • $150,000-$195,000 (depending on level and location)

For cash compensation, we set standard ranges for all U.S.-based roles based on function, level, and geographic location, benchmarked against similar stage growth companies. In order to be compliant with local legislation, as well as to provide greater transparency to candidates, we share salary ranges on all job postings regardless of desired hiring location. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including geographic location as well as candidate experience and expertise, and may vary from the amounts listed above.
