AMP’s engineering team designs and builds components as small as a sensor and as large as a facility. We are inherently inter-disciplinarian and relentlessly focused on pushing the state of the art in recycling. Systems engineering is a new group within AMP and this role would be the first team member.
AMP Robotics is hiring a Systems Engineer reporting to the Head of Engineering to focus on:
Shaping solutions from principles through delivery. You will have access to, and partner with, the whole engineering team to realize category defining products and new enabling technologies. You will sit at the intersection of many unique disciplines and facilitate finding harmony among them to achieve the best outcome.
As our Systems Engineer, you will work to:
- Engage in high level trade studies to determine ideal system architecture
- Build digital/physical prototypes to resolve architectural questions
- Build tools to work through problems and produce actionable solutions
- Partner with product and engineering teams in pursuit of this objective
- Produce engineering requirements for subsystems / teams to develop from
- Partner with head of engineering to identify areas of high leverage to influence out technical roadmap
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None immediately, eventually yes.
The successful candidate will have:
Required:
- 3+ years in a systems engineering role of a highly complex system
- Excellent communication skills among different teams and technical backgrounds
- Demonstrated ability to reduce high complexity systems to their minimal saliency
- Strong culture of documentation; translating abstract concepts into tangible requirements
- Demonstrated ability to avoid analysis paralysis and make sound decisions quickly
- Strong prototyping skills, both physical and digital
- Relentlessly curious
Preferred:
- Experience with Atlassian Jira and Confluence products
- Strong understanding of electromechanical systems and software fundamentals
- Familiarity with embedded systems
- Proficiency in software engineering for robotics (C, C++, or python)
- Working knowledge of the full stack of modern machine learning, specifically object detection system
Bonus:
- You understand the difference between object detection and image classification
- You have designed hardware (PCB, something mechanical)
- You have operated as a lead systems engineer in aerospace, automotive, or in field robotics
- You have or aspire to lead
Education:
- BS degree in Engineering, Physics, or Computer Science
Experience:
- 3+ years in a systems engineering role of a highly complex systems

Benefits:
- Medical - The company covers up 85% to 100% of the premium for Cigna healthcare plans depending on the selection. Employees pay the difference in premium if they select a more expensive plan. Up to 75% for dependents.
- 401(k) retirement plan (non-matching).
- Seven (7) paid holidays – 7 company designated and 2 floating holidays. (salaried employees only)
- Referral bonuses for staff positions.
- Paid Vacation Leave – Accrues at a rate of 4.67 hours (0.58 days) per pay period (2 weeks). Unused PTO carries over each year with a 1-year limit.
- Paid Sick Leave – 64 hours per year, given in full on start date, refreshes on anniversary.
