Position Purpose:

Responsible for managing all aspects of the maintenance department. This includes managing the upkeep of all manufacturing assets, managing maintenance budget and resources and assisting in the design and installation of new systems. Initially, a major focus will be on setting up the maintenance program for a new food ingredient processing facility which will be operational in the Fall of 2018. The facility will operate on a 24/7 schedule, requiring the potential need to manage maintenance activities during nights and weekends. In addition, the person will be responsible for managing the maintenance requirements for a small, but versatile food additive processing plant located 5 minutes from the new production plant. The desired candidate will be a hands-on individual which has the ability and willingness to perform maintenance activities at times.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Performs maintenance management by supervising maintenance personnel and establishing priorities in maintenance schedules.
  • Maintains manufacturing assets and facility, parts inventory, monitoring purchase orders, invoice approvals, and manages the department budget. This includes:
    •    Maintain electronic records
    •    Check inventory, place orders, receive, and restock
    •    This includes general process equipment, as well as the materials/parts/equipment associated with the PM program
  • Manages maintenance personnel by setting direction and priorities.
  • Drives the Maintenance and Reliability initiative focused on Preventive & Predictive Maintenance, not reactive.
  • Managing, maintaining, and establishing maintenance procedures for production lines in a food manufacturing environment to ensure production meets or performs better than budget.
  • Ensure safe work permitting process (LOTO, line-breaking, hot work, confined space, etc.) are being followed and conduct all activities with the highest regard for safety.
  • Responsible for maintaining Food Safety and Quality Systems as assigned.
  • Setting and maintaining departmental budget by reviewing financial statements; monitoring line efficiencies; monitoring labor cost; and other expenses.
  • Provides training and continuous development on all maintenance personnel. Including Performance Evaluations on direct reports at least once per year.
  • Performs other duties such as coordinating work with outside vendors, providing project management, ensuring safety of personnel, and performing other duties as required.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule.
  • Perform other duties as required, such as:
    •    Diagnose, troubleshoot, update and repair malfunctioning plant equipment.
      •   This will require the individual to arrange maintenance personnel to be on call as the plant operates full time.
    •    Perform routine mechanical, electrical, welding, or machining maintenance activities on equipment (listed below) including lubrication, inspection, and replacement parts.
      •   Process pumps (multiple styles, including: centrifugal, peristaltic, AODD, rotary vane, and others), agitators, air compressors, chiller, electric steam boiler and steam distribution, plant process equipment (disk stack centrifuges, belt filters, heat exchangers, spray dryers, reverse osmosis, air filters, and others), valves

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Five years of maintenance management in a food or pharmaceutical manufacturing environment
  • Strong Safety Management and Risk Management experience
  • Strong background in HAACP; safety; and GMP
  • Strong knowledge of engineering concepts, including electrical, hydraulic and mechanical systems
  • Ability to interpret blueprints, specifications and schematics
  • Excellent technical knowledge of equipment, products and processes
  • Strong knowledge on how to implement a Reliability Program
  • Welding experience (stainless pipefitting, sanitary methods, structural fabrication). Certifications and experience are a plus and training can be provided.
  • Electrical (480VAC / 3 phase and 24VDC) codes, wiring, and conduit installation. This is primarily associated with equipment motors and VFDs and instrumentation/controls wiring.
  • Familiar with control systems (PLC and SCADA), primarily the hardware side (I/O wiring, instrumentation wiring and troubleshooting, VFDs, power distribution, etc.).
