The Network Engineer is responsible for researching, designing, documenting, building, testing, deploying, analyzing, administering, and maintaining the enterprise network environment, including hardware and software components, to meet current and future business needs. This includes monitoring and controlling the performance and status of enterprise network environment technology components and providing network technology component support and problem resolution. You will need advanced knowledge with utilizing proven systems, and scripting skills to execute on highly complex tasks related to hardware and software technology component analysis, integration, incident and problem resolution. The role also creates, reviews, and ensures updates are made to the configuration management plan. 

 

Essential Functions (Responsibilities): 

  • Solid written and verbal communication proficiencies, quick learning abilities and self-motivated team player. 
  • Designing and implementing new network solutions and/or improving the efficiency of current networks 
  • Cisco ASA, Cisco VPN, Cisco nexus, and switches 
  • Installing, configuring and supporting network equipment including routers, proxy servers, switches, WAN accelerators, DNS and DHCP 
  • Procuring network equipment and managing subcontractors involved with network installation 
  • Configuring firewalls, routing and switching to maximize network efficiency and security 
  • Maximizing network performance through ongoing monitoring and troubleshooting 
  • Arranging scheduled upgrades 
  • Identifying and Investigating faults in the network 
  • Updating network equipment to the latest firmware releases and documenting accordingly 
  • Reporting network status to key stakeholders 
  • Installs, configures and supports company LAN, WAN, and wireless networks, including switches, routers, firewalls, access points, voice and ELAN circuits, servers, and other hardware. 
  • Monitors network performance and troubleshoots problem areas as needed and provide network performance statistics and reports. 
  • Documents and maintains information related to the administration of the network. This includes but is not limited to creating and maintaining documentation for network configuration, network mapping, processes, and service records and licensing. 
  • Understands and troubleshoots the following network layers, technologies and system protocols, including but not limited to: TCP/IP, UDP/IP, SNMP, SSL, HTTP, FTP, SSH, Syslog, DHCP, DNS, QOS, EIGRP 
  • Understands and maintains network security appliances (firewalls, etc.) and the concepts and procedures for network security 
  • Handles Network Team support tickets. 
  • Assists desktop and server teams with network related escalations. 
  • Collaborates with other Engineers, IT Architects, vendors, and business clients to ensure that modified network hardware and software technology components interact appropriately. 
  • Strong ability to identify, determine and document customer requirements
Technical Skills:

 

The network engineer must have the product knowledge and technical skills to install network components and operating systems. An understanding of network standards, such as TCP/IP network, security best practice, as well as be able to configure networks for fast, secure, reliable operation as well as expert Knowledge of network security is a must. 

 

Personal Skills:

 

The network engineer at Inspirato must have expert analytical and problem-solving skills to assess network performance and recommend changes. They need good interpersonal skills to communicate with both non-technical and technical stakeholders and co-workers.  They also need project management skills to ensure that new installations or network upgrades do not disrupt normal work and work effectively within project timeframes. 

 

 Required Experience and Skills: 

  • Must be proficient using the Microsoft Office suite  
  • Must have high attention to detail and great written and verbal communication skills 
  • Proven experience as network engineer 
  • Outstanding diagnostic, problem-solving and analytical skills 
  • Good communication skills 
  • Expert knowledge of LAN/WAN networks, TCP/IP protocols and network technologies 
  • CCENT, CCNA, or CCNP qualification required 
  • Experience with Mobile Device Management (MDM) a plus 
  • Extensive knowledge of OSPF, BGP, IPv6 
  • Able to capacity-plan and forecast 
  • Knowledge of MPLS, QOS, ISIS, DWDM a plus 
  • Coding skills 
  • Extensive experience with data centers and best practices 
  • Understanding of all the infrastructure pieces and protocols needed to run multi- site organization 
  • Ability to multi task and adapt in a fast-paced work environment  
  • Ability to manage multiple projects as once and prioritize them 

Education:  

  • B.S. in Computer Science or a minimum of 5 years of network engineer experience equivalent. Cisco CISSP certification is a big plus
