Job Summary

Buyer/Planner-Commodity Specialist/Mgr: Plans, schedules and monitors the movement of materials through the production cycle to determine required materials purchases. Obtains materials using engineering and production schedules to maintain inventory at planned levels (i.e., Just in Time purchases, use of EOQ - Economic Order Quantities). Resolves discrepancies. Creates and maintains bills of material and parts/commodities numbers in supply chain management or other enterprisewide systems. Ensures material standards are met and non-conformances or variances are approved and/or minimized. Develops specifications for new contract orders. Gathers quotations, examines bids and makes awards. Monitors cost, schedule and scope of assigned subcontracts to assure best quality at best value. Evaluates vendor reliability and develops new supply sources where vendors and suppliers are no longer competitive.

 

 

Job Requirements

- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written with the ability to listen and deal with conflicting opinions.- Knowledge of tools, processes, and operations planning.- Good analysis, project management, and reporting capabilities.- Significant prior experience in procurement.- Contract experience.- Strong computer skills including: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Oracle.- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment of other Commodity Managers and cross functional peers to support deadlines.- Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently.Responsibility and Interaction:Responsibility: - The tasks this individual is responsible are often unstructured and the issues addressed are less defined requiring new perspectives and creative approaches.- This individual will apply attained experiences and knowledge in solving problems that are complex in scope requiring in-depth evaluation. - Demonstrate good judgment in solving problems as well as identifying problems in advance, and proposing solutions.Interaction: - This individual must work effectively with Staff to Vice President level employees within the function, across functions and with external parties. - Limited supervision and direction is provided, as this individual can operate and drive results and set priorities independently. - The ideal candidate will be a proactive contributor and subject matter expert.- To be successful, this individual must demonstrate favorable results through regular leadership and influencing others.

 

 

Education

Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 3 years experience; or equivalent experience.
