As Head of Email Strategy you will drive the ideation, planning, creation, testing, and execution of all email campaigns across our full suite of education, entertainment, and travel newsletter brands. Your vision, analysis, and ability to communicate will impact our user experience at its onset - in the inbox. You will utilize marketing skill, email familiarity, and management acumen to lead a team of experienced and talented email designers, campaign managers, and project managers to ensure that our email campaigns are targeted accurately, scheduled intelligently, enticing immediately, and structured to drive engagement and exposure to our brands. You’ll work with myriad teams across Editorial, Creative, Design, Engineering, and Product to ensure that the quality you prioritize is inherently present in our main content distribution medium - our unparalleled email products.

In this role, you will…

• Lead a strong team of email developers, campaign managers, and project managers
• Own the strategy for email sending, including optimizations across the board from subject lines to pre-header text to send dates to send volume
• Work with, and drive the improvement of, current Email Marketing Platforms, both internal and external
• Lead the vision for automation of pertinent aspects of the email delivery process, while organizing our team and processes to make sure we never lose our human touch
• Work closely with the COO to drive efficiency at all levels of the inbox experience
• Work with the CEO to strategize, define, and learn best practices for deliverability and growth
• Ideate, analyze and implement strategies to increase deliverability, open rates, click through rates and retention
• Lead our email template development team and collaborate with Product Manager to define email template requirements and design optimization testing
• Craft cross pollination and introduction strategies for new and existing subscribers
• Own the tracking and expression of key email data as it relates to product enhancements both on web and in the inbox
• Outwit competitors working with a world-class engineering team to provide unparalleled experiences in email
• Liaise with editorial to maximize the efficiency of content testing and content creation cadences
• Learn more about email marketing and intelligent content distribution than literally any other job could ever provide
• Own the experience of delivering high-quality content to over 20 Million subscriptions across 10 education, entertaining, and inspiring brands

What we’re looking for…

• The ability to clearly and concisely communicate insights gleaned from access to real-time data
• Creative thinking and problem solving to ensure both novel and effective journeys for our subscribers
• Experience working with email marketing platforms at large scale volumes
• Experience with email delivery strategy at a company geared toward engaging with real people, not just businesses or other organizations
• Experience improving objective Deliverability Metrics, Open Rates, and Clickthrough Rates
• The ability to self-motivate and proactively offer solutions to challenges
• A keen sense of overall goals and the tenacity to stump for processes and projects you believe in
• Excellent communication skills when working across a variety of teams with different strengths
• The ability to prioritize multiple initiatives, stay on track, and keep the overall goal in mind
• Seeing the forest, not just the trees
• Honesty, enthusiasm, and indomitability 
• Experience working with an editorial team a plus
• Experience with Ongage and Sparkpost a plus
