How You Fit In:

You will be our first attorney dedicated to financial regulation. You will provide practical, strategic advice to our Product, Operations, and Compliance teams, among others, on financial regulatory matters. You will drive our work to obtain any additional financial licenses we decide to pursue, including by engaging directly with state authorities. And you will assist with managing our regulatory relationships.

 

Our regulatory work is challenging and exciting, due to the novel issues presented by our unique business model and Federal Reserve access. As a part of our team, you will have a chance to develop specialized expertise within a rapidly developing area of payments innovation and financial regulation and policy.

 

This role reports to the Head of Legal.

 

What You’ll Do:

Provide advice and support on payments-related financial laws and regulations, including any applicable money transmission obligations;

Help drive market and customer expansion by collaborating actively with Product, Compliance, Sales, and others on regulatory matters presented by strategic growth initiatives and new customer outreach;

Assist with developing policies, procedures, and internal controls related to financial regulatory compliance, in close coordination with Compliance;

Serve as the company’s lead expert on our financial regulatory obligations, enabling you to anticipate emerging issues and provide practical advice for achieving our goals;

Represent us before regulatory agencies;

Manage outside counsel assisting with financial regulatory matters and ensure we receive efficient and effective support;

Support the work of our Board of Directors’ Risk and Audit Committees; and

Roll up your sleeves and assist as needed with Legal Department priorities.

 

Qualifications:

Minimum of 5-7 years’ experience at a law firm, financial regulator, or in-house legal department for a payments company, money transmitter, or other fintech

Significant experience with payments and money transmission law and regulation

Significant experience interacting with financial regulators, particularly state agencies

Start-up or growth company experience a plus

JD from an accredited law school and active membership in at least one state bar

We feel passionately about equal pay for equal work, and transparency in compensation is one vehicle to achieve that. Total compensation for this role is market competitive, including a base salary range of $150,000 - $175,000and significant equity upside potential given our position as a promising Series A growth company. Reserve Trust intends to offer the selected candidate base pay within this range, dependent on job-related, non-discriminatory factors such as experience and location.
