Job Summary
Here at OnDeck, we are looking to hire a talented paralegal to help lead litigation and bankruptcy recovery operations. The position will be in our Denver, CO office. We are seeking a highly motivated, self-starter who enjoys working in a dynamic, fast-paced and collaborative environment. In this challenging position, you will report to our Senior Associate General Counsel and head of litigation, and work closely with members of the collections team, operations team, legal department as a whole, outside retained law firms, and other departments as needed. Simply put, we are seeking a motivated and experienced paralegal to help a rapidly growing, newly public, company execute its business plan in the areas of recoveries.
As the Litigation and Bankruptcy Paralegal at OnDeck, you will:
- Work closely with OnDeck’s head of litigation, collections teams and retained law firms in formulating, developing and executing an evolving litigation and bankruptcy recoveries strategy.
- As for litigation, devise and execute a strategy to analyze litigation recoveries’ performance to achieve company objectives and otherwise serve in a client support function vis-à-vis retained law firms.
- As for bankruptcy, devise and execute a strategy to file in-house proofs of claim and manage said claims in-house to optimal liquidation, including implementing technology to assist and to evaluate same.
- Work on other (offensive and defensive) general litigation matters as needed or assigned.
- Work on other legal department matters as needed or assigned.
Required qualifications for success:
- You have at least 3 years of relevant experience working in a law firm and/or company’s in-house legal department focused on general litigation, with an emphasis on creditors’ rights matters.
- You have at least 1 year of relevant experience working in a law firm and/or in a company’s in-house legal department focused on bankruptcy recoveries, and have a good understanding of the U.S. Bankruptcy code and rules, especially with respect to proceedings under Chapters 7, 11, 12 and 13.
- You are a wiz with Microsoft Excel, Pacer and LexisNexis.
- You are adept working with a variety of software programs.
- You have an undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university.
- You enjoy and excel at “running with things” on your own.
