Summary
The Lead Architect has technical responsibility over managed security services. They provide technical expertise for complex network architectures and tactical support for challenges that require escalation. The Lead Architect explores data science and emerging technologies focused on optimizing efficiencies, improving standards, and supporting new business opportunities. They provide technical guidance to the Product Team for the development of new products and improvement of existing product offerings. The Lead Architect is responsible for research and recommendation of hardware selection and software standards needed for growth of capacity and features. They lead in the definition and automation of standard network designs to assist with improvement of engineering deployment schedules.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Evaluate leading and emerging technologies including automation, software-defined networking, machine learning and deep learning, segment routing, zero-trust networking, Secure Access Service Edge, and other backbone architectures and security strategies.
  • Champion architectures to meet current and future engineering, security, systems, and development requirements. Assist in the design, deployment, and documentation of these technologies.
  • Develop new initiatives to simplify, optimize, standardize, and automate network designs. Create tooling to enhance operations, shorten implementation cycle, reduce service downtime, improve performance, and ensure that all security and compliance requirements are fully governed.
  • Research and devise innovative proof-of-concept simulations of potential internal and external products for consideration by Product Management and Architecture leadership.
  • Leverage scripting experience in PHP, PERL, PYTHON, Ansible, and BASH shell scripts to automate configuration generation, deployment, auditing, and reporting.
  • Make hardware and software upgrade recommendations for core and end-site equipment to promote growing company business objectives. Lead the efforts for validation testing of planned architectures and equipment to demonstrate their effectiveness.
  • Investigate published security advisories, determine scope of impact, and recommend the best course of action to mitigate possible threats.
  • Collaborate in the development of the company's technology roadmap. Support the Product Managers to develop and support new product strategies and enhance existing service offerings.
  • Provide training and knowledge transfer for engineering to support new technologies and improve operational efficiencies.
  • Be a point of escalation for technical support personnel.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Education and/or Experience:

  • Minimum of 15 years of experience as a network engineer or architect in a telecommunications service provider network with significant and demonstrated experience designing, implementing, and supporting large scale multi-protocol networks.
  • Must be a creative thinker and able to solve complex problems.
  • Must currently hold Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert certification. CCIE
  • Candidates with demonstrated ability to learn quickly, work under pressure, and grasp both technical and business-related nuance in a rapidly changing environment will be considered first.
  • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of service provider, data center, wireless, and security strategies. Experienced with design and support of both geographically dispersed and significantly sized deployments.
  • Superior knowledge of Internet architectures, WAN routing, LAN switching, and packet tracing.
  • Requires a thorough understanding of service provider architectures and technologies, including: MPLS, L2VPN, L3VPN, SD-WAN, MP-BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, IS-IS, H-QoS, and IPSec.
  • Ansible, Python, or similar experience in network automation and a moderate Linux acumen are required.
  • Must have extensive experience with Cisco IOS, IOS-XR, NX-OS, FortiOS CLI.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office products: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.


Base pay range: $114,900-$172,410, commensurate with experience
