We're looking for a passionate Laboratory Technician who will support high complexity laboratory testing  on patient specimens across various assays and platforms. Reporting directly to the Extraction Supervisor, Laboratory Technician I is responsible for specimen handling and processing, with a strong emphasis in extractions, following the laboratory’s pre-analytic and analytic procedures and maintaining records of tests. This role will be performing quality control and quality assurance procedures while complying with all applicable local, state and federal laboratory requirements. The work requires excellent attention to detail, effective written and verbal communication skills, the ability to multitask and be flexible with tasks and schedules, and the ability to work independently in a team environment. This role requires on-site work at our Metropark, NJ location as well as ability to work overtime and off-schedule days as needed.

LOCATION: Iselin, NJ (Onsite position)

SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday, 9:00am - 5:00pm 

What you will do:

  • Carries out day to day tasks including preparing for and executing nucleic acid extractions.
  • Isolate nucleic acids using manual methods and/or automated instrumentation ensuring the delivery of high-quality purified samples for downstream assays.
  • Follows written lab procedures for the correct handling and processing of samples in accordance with standards set forth in standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Maintains projects and sample information, protocols, and experimental details through the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
  • Assists in the orientation and training of new employees.
  • Performs quality control procedures established for each method and maintains accurate records.
  • Additional duties outside of extraction may include histology and other associated tasks.
  • Maintains records demonstrating that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens,
  • Adheres to the laboratory’s quality assurance procedures including documenting all quality control activities, instrument and equipment verifications and preventive maintenances
  • Identifies and documents problems that may adversely affect test performance and notifies the supervisor, assistant director(s) or director.
  • Documents all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from laboratory’s established performance specifications.

What you bring:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in biology, Chemistry, or related life science
  • 0-2 years relevant laboratory experience 
  • Ability to handle biological specimens.
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks at once and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Ability to lift up to 30lbs.

This salary range is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience and location. $25.53$31.88 USD
