Backend engineering at Personal Capital (Empower) is a lot about ownership, innovation and team spirit. Our engineers are problem solvers, smart , collaborative and strive in reaching the best practical solution in an agile environment in a diverse, inclusive environment.

As a Software Engineering Intern , you will work with various teams, stakeholders, developing software ranging from writing java programs , writing both unit and integration tests, develop CICD to make sure you integrate and deploy the application, which you will start owning as soon as you join. Personal Capital was born on the cloud and uses various latest technologies that a true tech company should use to handle flexible and highly scalable workload demand.

This paid internship is for a duration of approximately 10 - 12 weeks during the Summer of 2021. Candidates will go through a lot of learning in areas of software engineering and will surely enjoy working on real world financial problems which we often dog food before we rollout to our customers.

Responsibilities:

  • Support applications which have been rolled out on production.

  • Design and develop new micro services.

  • Write your own CICD and deploy application on modern containerized k8s infrastructure.

  • Connect with product managers to understand their goals and needs and translate those into solutions our team can deliver.

  • Configure tooling for systems scalability, ensure we have the capacity for future growth.

  • Ensure our systems are continuously monitored and running efficiently with a consistent, unified experience across products, platforms, and devices.

  • Test current algorithms and write unit tests and automation tests to embrace shift-left ideology.

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders across the business to drive the delivery of features, processes, and happiness.

Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled in a four-year academic institution completing an undergrad, grad degree in Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, or a related STEM field.

  • Availability to complete the full 10-12-week internship program during Summer 2021,with a time commitment of approximately 30-40 hours per week.

  • Coding preferably in Java for core engineering roles.

  • Good understanding of database and nosql fundamentals.

  • Good understanding of any 1 public or private cloud.

  • Detail-oriented, organized, ethical, responsible, and self-motivated.

  • Strong communication skills and a desire to learn something new.

The salary range below describes the minimum to maximum base salary range for this position in the location listed. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation offered may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.
