How you'll make an impact
You will be managing engineers across a number of pods. You will be responsible for supporting your direct reports in becoming awesome Xeros - empowering them to hone their engineering skills. You will work alongside other People, Product, and Engineering leaders to foster the growth of a world-class engineering culture in your wider Technology team.
What you'll do
- Champion principles and practices that make it possible for engineers to get great work done, while promoting a safe environment for people to experiment and learn .
- Assist with the development of a world-class engineering culture where engineers have the skills and autonomy needed to build high-quality products and services.
- Encourage the professional development of engineers under your care. Organise training as needed.
- Attract, recruit and retain capable individuals, building on and complementing the diversity of our team.
- Role-model exemplary leadership, supporting and growing the next generation of leaders at Xero.
Success looks like
- A Technology team that is well connected to other Product teams: Products and services developed by your Technology team are improved on and delivered incrementally. They solve real customer problems.
- Your people are working effectively and efficiently with a continuous improvement mind-set.
- Accurate and timely information is provided by your people to Product Owners, Product Managers and other stakeholders to enable them to set timeframes and/or scope expectations.
- Your direct reports are effectively managed and supported. Their performance is reviewed regularly, and feedback is continually provided in a timely manner.
- All engineers are empowered and challenged to do their best work. The right people are solving the right problems and their skills are continuously being developed through new learning and experimentation.
- There is opportunity for all engineers to grow at Xero. All direct reports should be helped to understand their personal career path and be encouraged to excel towards it.
- Good performance is recognised and celebrated. Poor performance is managed promptly and effectively.
- All engineers are motivated and engaged: Staff morale and staff retention is high.
